We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jocelyn and Shanon Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jocelyn and Shanon, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Jocelyn – My work ethic comes from my military pedigree. There has been so much adversity that I’ve faced during my years of service, and in life in general, I truly believe I can push through anything. Additionally, dedication and the pure will to win drives me to always be the hardest worker in any room.
Shanon- My work ethic comes from wanting to be better than I was in the past. I set my goals and my standards high, and I work to execute those goals at my own pace so that they always feel achievable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The Real Friends Podcast is a space where we talk about all things’ friendship. We bring a positive insight to real friendship, and show what it’s like to be supportive, successful, and vulnerable. Jocelyn originally came up with the idea when she noticed there were a lot of people who were interested in the fact that she remained close friends with a group of her high school friends for over 20 years. That made her realize that friendship was sadly a dying art and that sparked the idea for the show. She then approached Shanon to pitch the idea to her, because their friendship and their lifestyles were so similar. Some of the various topics you can hear us discuss on the podcast include but aren’t limited to; friendship, entrepreneurship, motherhood, finances, etc.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Friendship, Accountability, and Authenticity – these three things are the pillars of the Real Friends Podcast. They are what help make the podcast relatable to so many people. Showing viewers who we really are, authentic friends who always keep each other accountable, is what draws in our audience. Our advice for present and future podcasters would to always be your authentic self and only produce content that brings value. Don’t get so caught up in podcast streams that you lose credibility.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We would love to collaborate with other like-minded podcast hosts that are looking to positively impact others through the power of voice. We would love to collaborate with another pair of “real friends” but that is not necessarily a deciding factor, we would still love to collaborate with individual podcasters as well.
