We recently connected with John Adams and have shared our conversation below.
John, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self esteem comes from helping and being in the service of others. I truly believe we are our best selves when we are in the service of others. I have an opportunity with Bridgewater Tax and Financial Consulting to help people navigate through the difficulty of taxes. I have served many new entrepreneurs starting all types of businesses in service and manufacturing, Real Estate Investors starting their Airbnb business, or people who have lost a loved one and do not know how to deal with their inheritance. I enjoy educating them and helping them feel at ease with the changes that occur in their lives.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I started preparing taxes at the age of 19. I was a college student and answered an advertisement for a CPA looking for an assistant. I realized at that age how much I enjoyed helping others with their finances. Through out my profession I have been able to help many people both business clients and students as a University Professor. Second to your health and family, I believe having your finances in order are a key to a good life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Finances are the corner stone of any entrepreneurial journey. Understanding how your business works, and how to attract good paying costumers is very important. Lastly, cash is king make sure you understand the cash flow in your business. If you cant do it find a good accountant one that will help educate you along the way.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the most important things that I have learned from my parents is a good person can do the right thing and take care of themselves, but an exceptional person takes care of others. I try to use my business to be exceptional. We do events in the community for nonprofits, and we help our clients with their needs. My next goal is to give a person starting out in college the same opportunity that was given to me at 19.
