Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jolene Botzau. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jolene, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
Overcoming creativity blocks is essential for maintaining productivity and staying inspired. Here’s how I’ve tackled such challenges:
1. Change of Environment: A change of scenery can work wonders! Stepping out of my craft room, my usual workspace, and finding a new environment at a local coffee shop, at a park, or even just a different room, can help stimulate new ideas and creativity.
2. Taking Breaks: Pushing through creativity blocks hardly ever work for me. I find myself wasting more time than being productive. Stepping away for a break can help provide me with a mental reset from the task.
3. Setting Realistic Goals: Setting small, achievable goals is the BEST way for me to overcome creativity blocks. Breaking down larger tasks into multiple achievable tasks keeps them manageable and reduces the pressure.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge stand out as particularly impactful:
1. Adaptability: The ability to adapt to new situations, challenges, and opportunities has been crucial in navigating the twists and turns of my journey of creating Crochet by Jolene.
2. Continuous Learning: Whether it is learning a new bookkeeping program, embroidery software, or staying up to date on social media trends, I must continue to learn new skills to make Crochet by Jolene stay relevant.
3. Time Management: I must prioritize tasks, allocate my time efficiently, and optimize my productivity. It is essential for balancing demands, meeting deadlines, and achieving Crochet by Jolene’s goals effectively.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely, I’m actively seeking partnerships and collaborations to expand the reach of Crochet by Jolene (CBJ) this year. I believe that collaborating with like-minded individuals and businesses can open up exciting opportunities to showcase my crochet products to a broader audience.
I’m particularly interested in collaborating with:
Local Stores and Boutiques: I’m looking to expand the presence of CBJ products in stores, both locally here in Michigan and potentially beyond. If you own a boutique or know of a store that aligns with my brand aesthetic and values for handmade, artisanal products, I’d love to explore partnership opportunities.
Online Platforms and Influencers: Strengthening my online presence is a key focus for 2024. I’m seeking collaborations with influencers, bloggers, or online platforms in the crafting or lifestyle niche to showcase my crochet creations to a wider audience. If you have a relevant audience and are interested in partnering with CBJ, please reach out!
Markets and Workshops: I’m passionate about engaging with my local community and sharing my love for crochet through workshops, classes, and events. If you’re involved in organizing community events or know of opportunities for collaboration in Michigan, I’d love to discuss how CBJ can contribute.
