Meet Jonathan Morris

We were lucky to catch up with Jonathan Morris recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jonathan, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
A lot of my creativity comes from my relationship with patience. Being patient with myself and my ideas is an important part of my process; remembering that my success is not reliant on speed helps keep my mind clear, but it also reinforces that I have time to learn and grow at a steady pace without compromising the attention I need to put into my physical and mental health and the health of the relationships in my personal life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The Sweet Teeth and I would like this year to be about community, the elevation of experiences, and positive energy. There will be new sweets in abundance, but good things come to those who wait, so let the story unfold for but a moment longer, and remember what makes life sweet.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I would say that the things that helped me the most would be having patience, faith, and adaptability in my arsenal. Without one, the others don’t work, but altogether they fortify your belief in the power of your work and they fortify your ability to make things that you believe matter. I would tell someone early in their journey as a creative not to be in a hurry to get nowhere fast. Take as much time as you need to to fully grasp your vision, and then grow. If you can’t imagine what you want to grow to be then you’re growing without a purpose.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I start to feel overwhelmed I take time to get out in nature and feel my connection to the world. Remembering that there are other important relationships to nurture outside of my relationship to my work keeps me from burning out with my creative endeavors, and so it plays a crucial role in my creative process.
