Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jorge V. Gonzalez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jorge V., appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
In his early twenties during World War II, my grandfather moved from Mexico to the United States through something called the “Bracero Program.” It was an agreement between the two countries to help with work. He got a job working in the fields in Southern California, doing agricultural work. While he was there, my grandma stayed back in Mexico, taking care of their two young children. It was tough being apart, but they did it for a better future. Learning about this sacrifice changed my life forever.
When my dad was only 45, he got the tough news that he had just six months left to live. He didn’t give up, though. He fought really hard for eight years, trying to stay with his family. Sadly, he passed away at 53. Even though it was a tough time, his determination showed us how important it is to keep going, no matter what. The extra years he spent with us taught us about facing hard times with strength and leaving a lasting impact on our hearts.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I think I’ve got some special skills and a purpose in life. I made a cool batting machine for baseball and softball called “The Batting Pro,” and my daughter helped invent it when she was just 12. Then, in 2021 during the pandemic, I felt this strong urge to write, and that’s how my first book, “Answer The Call,” came to be. It’s all about finding your gifts, talents and going after your life’s purpose. Turns out, lots of people liked it, and it became a bestseller. I shared the news on social media, and that led to speaking gigs at colleges, universities, and podcasts. It’s been a wild ride, but it’s shown me the power of following your calling and your purpose.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe in following what God has called me to do and understanding that my life has a bigger purpose than just myself. I think I’m meant for something more significant. This means listening to God’s direction and trying to live my life in a way that aligns with that calling. It’s like following a guide that leads me to a path that’s about more than just what I want for myself. This idea helps me feel like I’m part of something larger, like my life is connected to a bigger plan that goes beyond just what I want to achieve.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m on a mission to motivate and inspire the next generation and anyone going through tough times or big changes. If there’s a chance to speak at events or be part of podcast interviews that aim to make the world better, I’m all in. I want to share my story and thoughts to encourage others to face challenges, find their purpose, and embrace positive changes. By getting involved in these opportunities, I hope to be part of something that helps people grow and stay strong through their own journeys.
