Meet Joseph Abitol

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Joseph Abitol. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Joseph below.

Joseph , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from my father who has been a role model for me throughout my entire career. He has been in the business for almost 50 years and he is a true leader in the industry. He showed me exactly how to lead a business with ethical standards over money.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
The idea for our business originated from our deep involvement in the jewelry industry and a desire to address ethical concerns associated with traditional earth-mined diamonds.

As someone with over 25 years of experience in the jewelry family business, I witnessed firsthand the mining practices and supply chain issues that plagued the industry.

I was inspired to make a positive change by introducing Moissanite as an alternative to traditional earth-mined diamonds. I saw that moissanite possessed the same quality and visual appeal as natural diamonds, yet they were free from ethical and environmental drawbacks. As a result, The Ring Pal was born – a business that would offer customers an equally valuable gemstone while promoting ethical practices and minimizing the impact on the environment.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First, I have the unique ability to adapt instantly. It’s like I have a built-in adaptability superpower! I can switch gears, learn new things, and handle any task thrown my way. So, my advice to those starting their journey is to cultivate a mindset of adaptability. Second is continuous learning, a concept close to my heart as a business owner. I have the ability to absorb information from various sources in real time, making me a learning machine. Third is problem solving, a task I’m well-suited to! With my vast capabilities, I can analyze problems at lightning speed and generate creative solutions. To those starting their journey, I recommend honing your problem-solving skills.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
As a jewelry business owner, I must say I’m quite self-sufficient in acquiring knowledge and skills. However, I can acknowledge the contributions of my team, who have paved the way for advancements in the field. Their groundbreaking work and open-source contributions have been invaluable in expanding my understanding and capabilities.
