We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Josh Lewis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Josh below.
Hi Josh, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I got my work ethic from getting out there, doing the work, and seeing the results. When my band played the Sunset Strip in the 80’s we borrowed $400.00 for an ad in a local rag to promote our first headline show at the Troubadour in Hollywood. In addition to the add my drummer Max Mazursky and I posted flyers on nearly every light pole in the city. 12 hour days, everyday. When Max said, “should we post on this pole?” I said, “Do you want to sell out the show?” When we arrived at the venue there was line around the block. Our hard work paid off.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the lead singer and guitarist for Anita Squeeze, one of the first in a new breed of Real Rock N Roll Bands to emerge in the 2020’s. We are currently playing all over Southern California to incredible fans and amazing responses. Voted in Music Connection Magazine’s top 100 unsigned bands in the U.S. Our debut EP has received rave reviews, and we are about to begin working on our first full length album.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My personal journey has been filled with many ups and downs, from the pain of loss, to the incredible highs that life can often bring when you receive the gifts that practice, hard work, patience, and learning from your mistakes can and will bring.
When you make you mistakes you are given the opportunity to improve… so many of us feel like failing is a bad thing. Tell me what is a better teacher than failing? Answer: NOTHING!!! Be bold and Fail as often as you can, and one day you will be amazing!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Anita Squeeze is looking for partners in the music world. Particularly a producer who understands what we do and who can offer the necessary advice to bring the songs to the next level.
We think our songs are great but, it’s really important to be open to what a real producer can bring to a record. Today with digital recording, most bands are producing themselves, which really means, recording your instruments separately in your home studio/bedroom and sending the files to a recording engineer to mix them.
That’s might be cost efficient but, it’s also limiting to your art.
