Meet Josh Wamboldt

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Wamboldt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Josh with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from my parents, Growing up my parents both had full time jobs, raising 3 kids that got into expensive sports. At first we were into boating which isnt cheap pretty soon we got back into the horse industry. Putting 3 kids through Rodeo every weekend through the summer and once to twice a month in the winter gets expensive. My parents had to work hard to afford our hobby and dreams, they instilled that on us. I knew i needed to work hard as well, my parents instilling that on me has helped me be successful, helps me get through the daily grinds and keep a positive attitude.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My focus professionally is my business, after i purchased this business in 2016 i wanted to turn it into my own, There are a ton of aspects to my business, from Horseback Riding, Overnight pack trips, gear packing services, hunting camps and guiding hunters. I have made it into a year round business, where we provide horseback rides in CO from May until September, this includes rides for beginner to advanced people mainly tourists for 1- 8 hours, we then go into our hunting season from September until mid November this includes setting up camps, packing hunting gear, packing harvested animals, bringing in supplies and guiding hunters, from mid November until May we head south to Castle Hot Springs, AZ where we provide 60 and 90 minute horseback rides for guests to the Hot Springs Resort.

We get to give people an experience that they have always dreamed of, seen on tv or never thought that they would be able to do. Riding horses through the mountains of Colorado and Arizona can be a bucket list item for some. Keeping the western heritage alive has always been a goal and passion of mine, along with hunting and horses i get to combine almost all my favorite things into a life that is like a vacation every day

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The main one is a strong work ethic, in this line of work if you dont have a strong work ethic youre not going to make it, ive seen people come and go in this business, most dont make it just due to the fact that it is long hours and hard work. The next is a love or passion for this line of work, this isnt a business you get rich off of, you do this cause you love it, long hours in the saddle, riding through rain, snow, cold, and sunny days.
the last is just simply having a knowledge of horses, its hard to jump into this business without atleast a basic knowledge of horses, it can be done but you have to have a strong string of employees to keep you afloat.
