Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joshua Baldwin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Joshua , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I often remind myself that being good at something and enjoying it doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. The greatest challenges in my career so far have concluded to reveal greater ones. My resilience comes from finding solace in difficulty.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an illustrator and conceptual artist. Those two fields often coalesce into each other. To summarize, I draw, paint, and ideate imagery for games, comics, short films, & small businesses. I’m also partnered with laser engraver, Aaron Below. Who places my art on collectible coins.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Stay hungry, practice discipline & don’t count the hours but make the hours count. It’s also worth mentioning you have to keep stepping out of your comfort zone. Nothing I’ve ever accomplished has been the fruit of remaining comfortable. If you want to learn something – you have to be the one to initiate that growth. No one is going to do it for you.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
My successes are attributed to my time management. I intentionally block out time to create, explore, and network. However, I’m a new parent and that comes with a whole new set of challenges. Especially task prioritization, time reallocation, and a lack of sleep. I’m learning how to be productive and move forward while being a parent.
