Meet Jovan Scott-Walker

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jovan Scott-Walker. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jovan below.

Hi Jovan , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I believe, the sooner you take the first step, the better the outcome. You can never be perfect, so it is better to kickstart your journey and learn on the way up. I wasn’t the way I am today on day one, but I knew I had to begin the ride somewhere to get to where I am now.

Additionally, I think having a support system that believes in you and your dreams helps. For me, my Mother and Nana were the two who instilled the initial dose of confidence to help me step forward.
A trick to gain confidence is to share your story. Yes, you will meet people who don’t believe in your vision and think differently. However, you will also find some who think similarly and can see your vision the way you do. Partner up with others and develop confidence by moving forward with a team you trust.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an entrepreneur who loves transforming ideas into lucrative businesses and helping others do the same. I’ve established two successful businesses: J2XA Management, and Care with Experience.  I entered the business world in my teens and worked my way up to the owner of Mal’s Steaks in 2019; a restaurant located in Conyers, GA. The establishment became successful, and I used the profits to invest in Airbnb. The investments ultimately paved the way for my second business, J2XA Management. The entity grossed over $2.7 million in three years.
Having mastered the art of flipping homes for profits, I wrote the Airbnb Survival Guide in 2021 to share my airbnb success secrets with the world. In the same year, I also launched Care with Experience with my mother. Today, it has become one of the top healthcare providers in Atlanta, GA.
As an entrepreneur, I believe evolution is the most exciting part. The more adaptable you are and the faster you evolve dictates your odds of success. The people who stay stagnant and marry mediocrity miss opportunities to level up.
Further, I think challenges and obstacles don’t hinder our progress but give us the endurance we need to complete the journey.
Both of my businesses have been built around the idea of delivering an impact, as I believe we must give back to the society that defines who we are.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Passion, determination, and perseverance are the three must-have skills. You need to be passionate about what you do, or else you will find it hard to see your dream to reality. It is essential to have determination. A sense of purpose and a strong self-belief is a must to take home the prize. Perseverance is needed to stay hinged on the success track. Victory doesn’t always come easy, but those who persevere through the trials and tribulations and don’t let failures demoralize them often win.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, I say it is a must to embrace challenges as a part of the journey. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, as preparedness helps you outperform the competition while over-confidence makes you complacent.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
The best way is to go all in with your strengths and build a team to replace your weaknesses. Focusing on your strengths helps you move forward confidently and makes the journey easy. On the other hand, trying to achieve perfection or well-roundedness often slows progress and sets you behind. The best way forward is to use your strengths to build a business and take the first step. Then, find skilled people to cover up your weaknesses. Remember, you can never procrastinate or delay, as delay often kills opportunities.
