Meet Judy Ricquel Harris

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Judy Ricquel Harris . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Judy Ricquel below.

Judy Ricquel, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Self confidence and self esteem for me is an ever changing process. And rightfully so. Life has so many stages and one year can look completely different from the last. It’s human to grow, change your mind a million times, learn and evolve. And I think the key to self confidence and self esteem is being kind to yourself through those stages. To be kind in those moments where everything might be going exactly the way that you want it to, and even more kind in those moments that nothing seems to be going as expected. I also think that it is important to take time to be proud of the person that made it to the other side during difficult times. Don’t crumble, but look at yourself and say “You did that!” By doing so, you became stronger, wiser, you gain patience, and most importantly the confidence to keep going.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have loved entertaining since I had my first conscious thought. I would sing and put on “shows” for family to watch, I have always been a very expressive person. At the age of five Mariah Carey’s video ‘Honey’ came on T.V., and up until that point my five year old brain had never been so enthralled! When I saw her escape from being kidnapped, jump from the balcony into the pool and change clothes under water ( all the while doing so in 6 inch heels), I pointed to the T.V. and said, ” I want to do that!”

And here we are.

Since we last spoke I have continued to work in various projects such as ‘Savages: The Movie’ , ‘She’s King’ with Haitian director Robenson Lauvince, and I have also had the pleasure to play the lead as Monica along side Antoine Morgan in ‘The Made Player.’ I am moving to New York pretty soon to continue to pursue my acting career.

What I feel is most special about this profession is the ability to connect with yourself, others, and the world around you. The ability to be able to live through someone else’s eyes for however long you may be on set, for me, creates an immense amount of humility and empathy.

Playing make believe has taught me so much about myself and allowed me to see just how much I am capable of.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that I would say were most impactful from through my journey has been my faith in God. Without that I am quite literally nothing.

Learning that I NEED to prepare ( just because I CAN act doesn’t mean I should go on set and wing it).

And lastly, a craving to always want to improved my craft, even/especially when I am on set. There’s ALWAYS so much to learn!

The advice that I would give someone early on their journey is have resilience, one ‘no’ means that there’s another open door somewhere else.

Comparison is the thief of joy; focus on your journey and you’ll get there exactly when you need to be there.

Finally; dont be shy, make connections. Those connections you make can be life changing! From advice, resources you may need to build your portfolio, and yes opportunities!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am AWALYS ALWAY ALWAYS looking to connect with others in a creative space! Whether that is through acting, being part of production, sketches or writers.

I love connecting with talented people who are serious about what they do, have big goals for their journey, and know how to create/ thrive in a productive, high energy, safe environment where creativity easily flows in abundance!
