Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julia Culbert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Julia, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from surviving my time n the troubled teen industry. I spent so long in a situation where I had everything taken from me, so now I don’t take anything for granted. Take every hurdle in life as a chance to jump even higher. The minute I turned eighteen I moved myself to Los Angeles and began my career in the creative industry, and every challenge I faced only made me stronger. I used my trauma from the troubled teen industry to direct my own documentary and share my story. Since I moved to LA I have been able to star as a lead in a future film that premiered at several well known festivals such as Fantastic Fest, Beyond Fest and more. I recorded and released three singles, and I have my first album coming out at the end of this year. I filmed my first music video to be released at the end of this year as well. Every time life presents me with another challenge I take it as a gift to continue to grow my skillsets.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a singer and actress from California. I’m currently in my senior year of college working towards a degree in film and television production, specializing in cinematography. I have recorded and released three singles so far, with over 100,000 streams on Spotify. I have my debut album, “Still Here” coming out December 29th. I’m also an actress with a lead role in a film out on Amazon Prime, “Birdemic 3.” I recently directed and starred in my own documentary about the troubled teen industry, entitled “Monarch,” which will be in festivals next year. I’m always looking for new projects and new creative work, and I can’t wait to see what the new year will bring.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think the three most important qualities in a creative living in Los Angeles are resilience, perseverance, and a strong sense of self esteem. You have to be resilient to take on all of the challenges this city will present you with, and you have to have the perseverance to not quit when things get too difficult, or when you get too many “no’s.” A strong sense of self esteem is essential because there is so much rejection in any creative industry. Not everyone will see your vision, and not every role will be for you. You have to have the inner strength to not take it personally and keep pursuing your dreams.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m already in the process of writing my second album and I would love to connect with some other artists throughout the process. My debut album will have a few EDM versions of my songs on it, and I would love to create even more remixes with my music.
