We were lucky to catch up with Julia Linger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My mother. Fun fact: that was favorite word, and she instilled that in my brothers, my father, and myself. As an immigrant, she faced so many difficulties, but would remind us that being resilient with push you through.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actor and comedian with the focus on empathetic storytelling. I want people to feel changed positively or inspired to do good for the world when they meet me or see my work and they too can make a change in the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think my support system. Between my family and friends, I was always reminded that we are more than a credit on a screen. With every rejection, or failed audition I know that having a support system will keep me moving forward. My biggest advice is just being genuinely nice to people who are nice to you. We’re all trying our best to succeed, why not bring each other up together?
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I have P.A.N.D.A.S. disorder. The hardest part of being an actor with PANDAS is having OCD/ADHD/Anxiety and Tic disorders that accompany it. It is a great challenge in acting when I need to be “still” and not tic, but I find it my super power when I perform comedy. I often feel different and have extra mental hurdles and battles a majority of actors may not also battle, but my brain is unique and I love it for that! In a way, having PANDAS (OCD, Tics, ADHD) is my superpower.
