Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julian Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julian , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I would say that I get my work Ethic from my Mother. Shes the epitome of hard work and no excuses. Growing up I saw her work two jobs for 24 years in order to provide for her Family. Working during the week in the Human Resource field and overnight on weekends working at Walmart. It was inspiring to me back then and it still is today. When you have people who depend on you financially, you have to grind to get them what they need. The sacrifices she made for me, spark my work ethic to this day…and that’s to stay.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My Name is Julian Brown, Owner/Founder of Kicks Klinic a Premier Restoration Company specializing in Footwear and Accessories. I was raised in Hackensack, New Jersey and have lived in Richmond Virginia since 2010 when I started college at Virginia Union University.
My love for sneakers started in my youth, always wanting to have the freshest kicks that my parents could never afford. It was then I learned that I had to appreciate what I had until I was able to get more. This is the core behind our objective. Kicks Klinic is here to help sneaker heads nationwide Protect Their Investments. It’s just the smart thing to do, you want to protect and preserve the thing you care about for as long as you can. And most people care a lot about their shoes and other prized accessories.
Right now in my life professionally the focus is brand expansion. 2024 is all about grinding for more and taking Kicks Klinic to the next level. Day by day, brick by brick we’re doing that. What I feel makes Kicks Klinic special is the vibe we cultivate via artistic expression and world class customer service. We treat all of our clients like VIP, we strive to give everyone a top notch sneaker care experience. Our artistic expression comes in to play via our content creation. We’re a brand you can trust.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
As I look back and reflect the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would be staying positive, always being a student of the game, and trusting the process.
Staying positive is a major key. With so many negative things happening that may be out of your control, the one thing you can do control is your mental attitude. I found that just keeping a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) helped me many days when I was struggling. I would say to myself “It could always be worse” and that’s fact it really could be. But in retrospect it isn’t, that’s a positive and something to be thankful for.
Always being a student of the game is essential. Your never to good or smart to learn something new. That is how the great ones keep constant elevation. Learning from those who may have more knowledge or experience. The goal is always to be the best version of yourself, how can you do that if your not actively working on getting better and growing in some way.
Lastly just trusting the process. Everyone has a different process in life. You have to trust in yours and stay the course, Limit distractions as much as possible & lock in. Progress is a process and Life is a marathon not a sprint. Focus on your lane and maintain your progress. Taking your eyes off your lane is how accidents happen, and we want to keep the controllable ones to a minimum.
To anyone that is early in their journey try to implement those three qualities I just mentioned and you’ll see positive movement. Control what you can Control and Handle your Handle. You can control your PMA and your effort. Which leads to handling your business in a more efficient and effective manner.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Characteristics that would make an ideal client for Kicks Klinic one being anyone who values theirs sneakers and accessories on a high level. Anyone that appreciates the finer things in life, and knows sometimes maintenance is essential in keeping them fine. Sneaker Restoration isn’t cheap, but it is cheaper than buying a brand new shoes majority of the time. Anyone who understands the value in the service we’re providing is an ideal client. As well as a patient client is very ideal. You have to realize the shoes your bring in did not get heavily worn over night or even in a weeks time. The progress is a process, sometimes getting your favorite shoes back to that new like state can take time. But the results are always worth it and patience is always greatly appreciated.
