Meet Julianna Cuervo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julianna Cuervo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Julianna , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming the impostor syndrome is an everyday job. I believe it is always there, but it is up to you to give it more energy than necessary. The main tool was to work on it through therapy, there I was acquiring different tools that make me deal with it better on a daily basis. On the one hand I understood that it is a consequence of being such a perfectionist person and that this was leading me to not enjoy the process, to do things, to create. The day I understood that I would never treat a friend the way I treat myself when I am under the effects of the impostor syndrome, I understood that this is an illusion that does not belong to me and that above all I can let it be, without identifying myself with it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Julianna Cuervo, I’m a dj, music producer and illustrator. I studied film for animation and since then I focus on the audiovisual world, from various initiatives be it dj sets, making music or creating illustrations. It makes me very happy to be able to live from what I do, I feel that it could not have been otherwise and I would like to continue creating and helping others to create and feel at ease with who they are and what they come to give to the world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Focusing on your reality is the basis of every creative project. Let’s not look at this in a limiting way, on the contrary it is to understand ourselves in the present, who we are, how we are surrounded and give a little amplification to our voice. The most important thing is not to compare ourselves, to ask ourselves why we are doing this, is it for the approval of others? if so, maybe it is better to rethink it because the emptiness will continue, you will never be enough. But if somehow you find yourself there, in a loving way with yourself, for that reason that you don’t know where it comes from but it burns your spirit, sit down and let it all happen. I always liked to do things, being a dj and illustrator taught me a lot, especially that if I don’t know something I have to focus a lot of time on learning, that maybe the road is a little slower while I learn to do something new, but it will be absolutely comforting when you finally achieve it and from there many other experiences start asking you for more.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Moving. Exercise, walk my dog. Feeling overwhelmed is first and foremost your mind overthinking and if you don’t give it a way to lighten up it won’t know how to look for solutions or just get out of there and see beyond it. So my recommendation will always be: if our mind is overwhelmed, maybe the answer is in our body.
