Kaino , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
By following my passion and invest more in what I am talented in and knowing where my strength lies. When i was a child ,I would rather explore many of my creatives and learning from other people, instead of having to tell my future what I would become.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Fashion and Textile Designer , I design and make clothes and accessories. I like to be creative and rather learn my customers and target market interest and body shape, to custom design unique and timeless garments. We have launched more lines like a lingerie line ‘ I am a woman” The True Calico, and the rescent one NAFIKA which is inpired by nambia being part of Afrika . We are known to be western fashion influenced and we worked on inspiring cuts that embrace african prints and for women is accompanied by an exaggerated hair wrap. Currently my business is well known for and more focused on preserving the culture and heritage through garments and accessories, we research Namibian traditional , culture and heritage sights to create motifs and treat textiles for unique and authentic products. Our current collection is Safari by Couture by Kimatheus Boutique , designed in oshiwambo traditional material and authentically hand treated the normal material into our unique safari material that is found in four colours , inspired by Namibian tourism attraction colour pallet. Orange for the dunes, blue for the Atlantic ocean , green for flora and brown for fauna. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Customer value proposition: this is very important to master or learn about your customer needs and importance to invest in products that have good quality and presented in a respectful manner. it teaches you to convince your customers to buy and believe in your products more than your competitors.
Authenticy: Being authentic and believing in who you are, that in whatever you do always remember to keep it natural and authentic. It is important that you keep learning who you are , invest in your personality , your mental health and how to feed your creativity to maintain your authenticity, To remember what your purpose is, why you have started and your story should always be on the front line.
Time Management has helped to conquer my work ethics, well disciplined with my work and self time as well as sharing kindness and care to my family and strangers. I make time for things that build me in my skills , mental health and academically.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Firstly , my parents have played a role by inheriting their talents, skills and knowledge in the area I’m invested in. They have supported me in everything I chose to be doing and still doin. They have been parents that throughout my career have been slowly walking behind me and if I fall they pick me up and to keep going again. As a visual Artist , qualified from the national university , they have never made me feel unworthy but impactful, talented and that I have a purpose and they can’t ignore it. I chose what I wanted to become a Visual artist and even though they might not have an idea what it would become, they put faith in me to support me and be my number one fans. this really contributed to my confidence and self esteem , to believe in myself when nobody else would because i have my purpose and even if some people will not understand who i am what I do at least it makes me stand out and to be unique , which is what is needed , to be authentic and unique, we all have different dtories and its important I am encouraged to keep mine different yet can related to some out there.
