Meet Kameron Walker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kameron Walker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kameron, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
As an artist i allow myself to completely soak up every little thing around me that could be used for creating. At times those moments causes me to pause from living and meditate heavily on the things i see. for its the small details in everyday life that captures the best ideas even when im at a standstill where artist block takes over, ill find any and every thing i can witness in the world with my two eyes that could provide the means of purpose in my work.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
well, im a creative who’s mainly a contemporary painter。 what i deem exciting is the actual process of creating new art in the studio and the required isolation and focus it takes to hone in on my craft that bests suits my expressive nature. . ingeniously in my approach to narrate certain compositions, my act of storytelling throughout my body of work is what makes me as a upcoming emerging artist such as myself go unnoticed throughout my neighborhood. in the DFW area ive showcased in group shows, recived awarded grants, and have published locally in news articles paving my way to open the doors for more oppoutunities. my contribution to my artistic practices reflects drive and engagement towards my arts community through public volunteer workshops of non-profit organizations specializing in the arts

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say passion, ambition, and an abundance mindset are three qualities that were most impactful to me because my passion led me to create work in the studio consistently, my ambition led me to network and take the opportunities necessary to get my work out there, and my abundance mindset allowed me to think on a bigger scale in terms of what i wanted as an artist that i deemed would make me succesful in my career. so my advice to other artist or anyone in their creative field would be to follow these same principles in which you have to be honset with yourself and your capabilities to know how your going to make it happen moving forward.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
my biggest area of growth besides my driven mindset would probably be my research and meeting certain deadlines。 whether it be for grants, fellowships, residencies, or open call exhibits, im always looking for ways to advance my career in the direction that it elevates my name and work an artist。 granted, you won’t be able to do every opportunity presented to you however, narrowing down as many options is better than having no options at all。
