Meet Kandra Becerra

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kandra Becerra. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kandra below.

Hi Kandra, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome hit me hard. It still does from time to time. I think that is human nature. However, I never set out to be a pediatric sleep specialist. I didn’t even know what one was. I found myself on that path after life events led me there. Because of this, I think I struggled with imposter syndrome especially hard.

I knew I wanted to help families. I also knew I would be good at it. I have always had a passion for helping others who are struggling. But I wasn’t sure if I had the qualifications to succeed in this field.

It wasn’t until I fully dove into my business that I started seeing the results of my hard work. And the results of my client’s hard work. A good cure for imposter syndrome is seeing phenomenal results from your hard work and coaching. From there I truly started to see myself as an expert in the pediatric sleep world. The knowledge I have directly results in tremendous success for our clients.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Colorado native, a wife, and a mom to two incredible boys. Like most first-time parents, I knew sleepless nights were par for the course with newborns. After a hard struggle with infertility my husband and I welcomed the sleepless nights. To us, sleepless nights meant we had our sweet baby!

However, nothing could have truly prepared us for how difficult the transition into parenthood really was. I was ready for sleepless nights. Nobody ever prepared me for sleepless days as well. I thought newborns basically slept all day. In our case, I was very wrong. Our son Owen was up for hours upon hours from the moment he was born. On top of that, he was colicky and diagnosed with a milk protein allergy. All of this combined was incredibly tough. I honestly felt like I was drowning it was so difficult.

When Owen was about 8 weeks old we hired a sleep consultant after a late night of Googling. I felt hopeful that this would be the help we so desperately needed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. It was a negative experience for my family. This resulted in money spent with no remedy for his sleeping issues.

I started to research the world of pediatric sleep after this experience. Let’s just say – a fire was lit! A passion I didn’t even know was possible started to evolve. When Owen was 6 months old I flew to Florida to get my sleep consulting certification. I opened the doors of Rocky Mountain Sleeping Baby and I haven’t looked back since. I was finally able to provide a service that I so desperately needed myself. Because everything we do is virtual, we are able to help families all over the world.

6 years later, 5 new team members and over 1,800 families served I am truly humbled to be the top pediatric sleep specialist in the Rocky Mountain region.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The 3 qualities and skills that were most impactful in my journey are empathy, critical thinking, and dependability. I truly believe a huge part of my success with my clients is knowing I have been exactly where they are. I know how hard it can be. I know the effects it has on the whole family. Because I have been there, it drives me to help them in every way I can.

Critical thinking is imperative in this field. Everything we do is child specific. You have to be able to constantly think outside of the box. Strive to find the root cause of each child’s sleeping issues.

Lastly, dependability. Our families hire us for our coaching. They are opening their hearts, minds, and emotions and entrusting us with their child’s wellbeing. This is not something we take lightly. They have to know that no matter what they need we will be there to help them and guide them every step of the way.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are always looking to collaborate with anyone or any business that works directly with infants and young children. We work with so many pediatricians – but our hope would be that each pediatrician would be able to refer our services when sleep issues are presented in their office. We are such an incredible resource!

We love speaking with preschools, moms’ groups, lactation groups, and chiropractic offices. Ultimately, providing education about pediatric sleep is so important to us.
