Meet Karla J Noland

We recently connected with Karla J Noland and have shared our conversation below.

Karla, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Developing my confidence and self-esteem has been a profound journey of self-discovery. During my adolescence and young adult years, I struggled to grasp my personal strengths and uniqueness. I erroneously perceived my sensitivity and uncanny ability to defy conventions as weaknesses. I failed to recognize them as strengths because I had yet to truly understand my authentic self, which was concealed beneath layers of trauma and shaped by the expectations of others.

The growth of my confidence and self-esteem came from a process of self-exploration, independent of external opinions or expectations. While well-intentioned, our parents and society may guide us in directions that do not align with our unique paths and purposes. My initial step was dedicated to discovering my core values, which I identified as Spirituality, Creativity, Uniqueness, Personal Growth, and Helping People. These values define what truly matters to me, unveil my passions, and help me create a vision for my future that resonates with my genuine self. Prior to recognizing these values, I often found myself entangled with people and ideologies that contradicted my beliefs. This left me feeling frustrated, drained of energy, and disconnected. Using my values as a guiding compass, I began to assess whether an opportunity, situation, or relationship deserved my energy. I consciously surrounded myself with individuals who not only supported my uniqueness but also revitalized me.

Subsequently, I uncovered my character strengths, or what I like to call my superpowers. My top five character strengths are Creativity, Gratitude, Love, Spirituality, and Hope. I incorporate these strengths into every facet of my life, including the challenges I encounter. Understanding and leveraging our character strengths enhances our self-awareness and bolsters our confidence in tackling future obstacles. Moreover, it provides us with valuable insights on how to create circumstances that empower us to overcome hurdles.

By harnessing our character strengths, we can shift our focus from negativity to positivity, steering clear of excessive self-criticism. Research demonstrates that when we employ our character strengths in our endeavors, we become happier, more productive, and more engaged.

Lastly, adopting a growth mindset has played a pivotal role in cultivating my confidence and self-esteem, epitomized by the belief that “Failure is an event, not a person.” A growth mindset prioritizes effort and perseverance, a willingness to confront challenges, and a conviction in the power of continual learning and improvement. This mindset correlates with increased resilience, motivation, and achievement across various aspects of life. Individuals with a growth mindset perceive challenges and setbacks as opportunities for personal growth and learning, rather than as reflections of their limitations or failures.

The journey to develop my confidence and self-esteem was far from instantaneous. It required unlearning behaviors and thought patterns that no longer served me while embracing my authentic self with a generous dose of self-compassion and self-love along the way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Reveal Heal Thrive Personal Development Coaching and Imprint is dedicated to the process of healing after life’s storms and helping you step into the life you desire. Our mission is to provide a safe space for women who have emerged from traumatic situations, such as the loss of a loved one, domestic violence, divorce, childhood trauma, and other mental health crises. Our goal is to assist trauma survivors in discovering their true selves, envisioning the life they want post-trauma, and creating actionable steps to achieve their goals.

As your Self-Discovery coach, I bridge the gap between your current situation and the brighter future awaiting you on the other side of healing.

I’m recognized for my willingness to be vulnerable by sharing my personal stories of triumph and what society may perceive as failure. However, I’ve come to understand that failure is merely an event, not a definition of who you are.

I firmly believe that overcoming trials and tribulations makes you resilient and enables you to find your purpose through your pain. Perhaps you’ve been stuck in survival mode, clinging to self-doubt and false narratives that suggest it’s too late, you lack the necessary qualities, or pursuing your dreams is selfish. I’ve been there myself, prioritizing others at the expense of forgetting who I was until I sought help. If this resonates with you, I’m here to assist.

As a Certified Self-Discovery coach, I comprehend why only 20% of people reach their true potential. I specialize in helping trauma survivors break free from anxiety and fear, which often hinder them from taking bold steps to prioritize themselves and live their dreams. Rather than addressing surface-level symptoms, I utilize my Mental Fitness training in Positive Intelligence® to address the root causes that undermine your desired outcomes.

Additionally, I’m thrilled to share that my latest book and bereavement companion journal, titled “The Day My Heart Turned Blue,” has been honored with the 2022 Eric Hoffer Spiritual Book Award. This book chronicles my personal healing journey following the loss of my mother. Its purpose is to offer support and guidance to individuals grappling with the death of a parent, helping them find encouragement and direction to move forward.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-awareness, a growth mindset, and self-compassion have proven to be the most influential qualities, skills, and areas of my personal journey.

Self-awareness is the first step toward transformation and ranks as the foremost skill required for leaders in this new era. In Tasha Eurich’s book, “Insight,” an illuminating revelation emerged: while a staggering 95% of individuals believed they possessed self-awareness, only a mere 15% actually demonstrated it.

My guidance for those eager to enhance their personal development is to invest time in connecting with their authentic selves. Discover what truly ignites your inner fire. Unearth your passions and reflect back to instances when you employed your character strengths to triumph over challenging circumstances. Pause and consider what assistance you require to develop your skill set. Could it be a coach, a mentor, or perhaps a therapist to help navigate your unique journey? Dedicate a moment to reflect on what it takes to reestablish that profound connection with yourself.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who has experienced and survived trauma, asking themselves, “I survived, now what?”

This is a common question we grapple with when emerging from life’s tumultuous storms. In survival mode, we often lose touch with our true identity, lack self-awareness, and may be consumed by fear and anxiety, which hinders us from venturing beyond our comfort zones for the next steps. We might find ourselves tethered to what has transpired in our lives and disconnected from our genuine, authentic selves.

As a certified Self-Discovery Coach, my role is to help you reframe that question to, “What does the other side of healing look like for you?” If you are prepared to embark on a journey of self-discovery after surviving life’s storms, then you may be ready for coaching.

So, how can you determine if you’re ready for Coaching as opposed to Therapy?
Here’s a rule of thumb: If your past is a persistent issue, counseling may be your best course of action.

On the other hand, if your past is merely a fact, irrespective of whether the circumstances were challenging or negative, you are likely ready for coaching.

As a Self-Discovery Coach, my responsibilities include:

– Discovering, clarifying, and aligning with what the client wants to achieve.
– Encouraging the client’s self-discovery.
– Eliciting client-generated solutions and strategies.
– Holding the client accountable and responsible.

It’s crucial to understand that Self-Discovery Coaching is not:

– Therapy
– Consulting
– Mentoring
– Training
– Athletic Development

If there is an issue for which counseling is advisable, I will make that recommendation. Some individuals, with the support of a counselor or therapist, choose to engage in both coaching and counseling simultaneously, each focused on different aspects of their lives.

My role as your coach is not to dictate what you should do but to assist you in unearthing the answers that already exist within you. Think of me as a catalyst for your success.

I’m not just a Certified Self-Discovery Coach; I’m also a client who benefits from having a Life Coach to help me move forward and a therapist to continue my healing journey from my past.
