Meet Karolina Guilcapi

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karolina Guilcapi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Karolina, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Being optimistic may very well be a genetic trait, however I truly believe that my job makes me a better person every day. When your world is the travel industry, it is hard to feel down or uninspired. There is always something new to explore or get excited about. Working in travel naturally attracts people who are in love with nature, who are enpathetic to current events, and who are genuinely kind. It creates an optimistic environment, and that is what I try to share with my employees and with my clients. My clients make my work days so interesting with their daily requests – staying on my toes as I navigate these challenges and solve the puzzles for them keeps me smiling. Are there bad days in the travel industry? Don’t we know it! But we are a resilient bunch and always bounce back.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Here at Sated Ventures Travel, we like to think of ourselves as problem solvers. Specializing in remote places that need a bit of handholding, we offer itineraries with some tasty solutions throughout. After managing two travel companies for 15 years, I found my own problem that needed solving: there was a gap in the industry where companies either specialized in remote places or food tours. I wanted both. And so I founded Sated Ventures – a boutique company that creates private itineraries with a culinary anthropology feel. What do we do? We connect clients to local cultures through food. Do clients have to be foodies to enjoy a Sated Ventures trip? No, but they will still eat well. How does it work? You tell us what destination is on your mind and your dates, and we build a unique itinerary based on your needs and interests. Private, custom, with our own guides and drivers. Yes you will visit everything on your bucket list – but we will also create some personal experiences along the way. Latin America is the heart of our expertise – Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu, Patagonia, Amazon, Costa Rica, Panama, and so much more. We also offer African safaris, Egypt and Jordan, as well as South East Asia. I have been traveling for 20 years, and have personally been to Latin America 42 times. You are in great hands.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The skills I attribute to our success are my attitude, being organized, and willingness to learn. I start each day as a new chapter and keep a professional but positive atittude towards my team, my 40 partners around the world, and of course my clients. I believe in what we do here at Sated Ventures, and so being positive comes easily to me. I love what we create! That said, staying organized in key to success. Use the tools widely available to set up your systems – for leads, for appointments, for following up, and so on. Create SOPs for yourself and for your team, so you can scale and grow without stress. Don’t let anything slip through the cracks – organize your crm so you can always be in touch with your clients. Lastly, know that you do not know everything – and be willing to learn! The travel industry is always changing so we are always learning something new. But you also have to be open minded to the changes in clients’ needs and interests, to today’s trends, and developing technology. Invest in yourself!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Sated Ventures is always collaborating with others! There are so many exciting opportunities available. We are looking to work with travel agents that have clients interested in South America & Africa – let us help you put together something unforgetable for them. We offer commission, fam trip options, and other perks. We also collaborate with local businesses such as dance studios (let’s go tango in Argentina!), yoga studios (a retreat in Costa Rica is waiting!), book clubs and wine clubs (explore Egypt or tasting tour through South Africa!), and other organizations looking for something new to experience. In the past we have worked with universities on educational trips for their students, and other groups. The options are endless. Just reach out and we will help with all the logistics.
