Meet Katherine Nightingale

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Katherine Nightingale. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Katherine below.

Katherine, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
There are negative people in every aspect of everything that revolves in the world. Taking risks or doing anything “outside of the norm” will always upset someone or some group that feels that they are the correct way of ‘being’. The type of genre I have written is not for all types of people. I started this journey with an open mind and understanding that I would most likely get negative feedback regarding my novel, I have received this feedback in many forms, from many people. The hardest was from my family—absolutely no support or encouragement because they disapproved of the material. This was hard, but instead of giving up, I reevaluated why I wanted to pursue it. I believed in my story. I love my story, and I feel that my story, even though completely fiction, is a realistic love story that is something to be proud of. I stayed true to myself by the love of my novel(s), and my passion for writing. I listened to all criticisms, but, in the end, I stand firm in the decisions I’ve made.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Katherine Nightingale was born and still resides in the beautiful state of Michigan. Initially, she focused on performing arts and vocal performance. Katherine attended the prestigious high school Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. After several offers from various colleges, Katherine chose the University of Michigan. Along with being a writer, she is a watercolorist, mother, wife, and the author of the novel, The Girl Next Door. Her book is published internationally in 32 countries and is available from 12 different publishing companies. Some of her beloved authors are L.M. Montgomery, Stephenie Meyer, Tracy Wolff, and JK Rowling just to name a few. When Katherine has a free moment, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and close friends.

The Girl Next Door. This is a basic love story with a ‘spicy’ theme. Ellie, the female character, is a lawyer, she understands the law and she knows what she’s doing isn’t legal but the heart has its own mind. This story shows that maturity can be more than just a number or age. It’s an engaging book that makes the reader think about that ‘line’.
People who have read this novel, review:
“We often read about younger women and older men, but never the reverse. Loved the twist.” “Can’t wait for the sequel!”, and “I fell in love with the characters and they really felt like they were a part of my life!”

Very exciting news: This March (2024), she will be releasing the sequel to The Girl Next Door. Katherine has been asked to sign at many different venues, but the most prestigious at this time, was being invited to the Forever Twilight in Forks Festival in Forks WA. There, she met amazing people from some of the original cast of Twilight to award-winning New York Times best-selling authors. Everyone was amazing and it was an absolute joy to attend.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three skills or qualities are passion, strength, and perseverance. I am asked at every event, ‘How?’ How do I start? How do I get published? How do get going? I receive a lot of; “How’s”. I try to answer the best I know by simply stating; start at the beginning. If you have a story, it doesn’t matter if you are the only one who likes it or not, YOU are the only one that matters. If you love it, then you show the world your PASSION. This requires STRENGTH to possibly ‘go against the grain’ when some people may discourage you (or attempt to). Once, you get your piece published, you have already PERSERVERED, and now you just need to keep moving forward and showing everyone your accomplishments.

It doesn’t matter if it is an article, a novel, or a book series. If you love what you have accomplished then you be proud of that work.

Love them, or hate them, Amazon is a very good place to start if you want to work as an independent author. They have a nice solid platform and a nice final product. There are a lot of good tutorials on the internet to get started and most independent authors will also be very helpful in your journey. I chose to be an independent author for several personal reasons, one of which I loved my work and didn’t want some company or ‘person’ to tell me I wasn’t good enough. My journey has been successful because I chose to make it successful. Success, also, is an objective word. My level or view of success may not be the same as others.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always open to working with anyone or collaborating with people who are supportive and amicable in future endeavors. I enjoy working with other authors, understanding their writing processes, how and why they chose to take the path they did, and sharing ideas. I enjoy working with successful people or individuals who have already had great success and those who are in the process. Besides releasing more novels in the future, I am very interested in putting my story(s) on film, either a series with mass media or production companies such as Universal Pictures. If anyone wants to talk to me about anything, I am always willing to listen and consider any opportunity.
