Meet Katherine Sanchez, Chelsea Matteson

We recently connected with Katherine Sanchez, Chelsea Matteson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine Sanchez, Chelsea Matteson, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
When we first met while working at a different private practice in the valley, we were just two psychologists with a shared dream. Fast forward three years, and we found ourselves on the cusp of motherhood and entrepreneurship. The decision to leave the safety net of our jobs to start our own practice in Scottsdale was nothing short of a high-stakes gamble. But here’s the kicker: we were both battling the sneaky whispers of impostor syndrome, that all-too-familiar inner critic that loves to question our competence and right to succeed.

The journey wasn’t just about setting up shop; it was about dismantling the self-doubt brick by brick. We leaned into the very techniques we teach, recognizing that impostor syndrome is like the ultimate mind game that thrives on isolation. So we banded together, creating a support system that was part cheerleader, part accountability partner. We normalized our fears, sharing them openly, and celebrated each small victory, from choosing the office paint color to our first successful therapy session. By embracing vulnerability and acknowledging that even experts have room to grow, we turned our fears into fuel. And guess what? It worked. Our practice is now a beacon of hope for families navigating the tumultuous seas of child mental health, and we stand at its helm, more confident and empowered than ever.

To anyone out there wrestling with the feeling of being a ‘fraud’ about to be ‘found out,’ remember this: impostor syndrome is the con artist, not you. It’s a common guest in the minds of many, especially when embarking on new ventures. But it doesn’t get to dictate your story. We’re living proof that with a dash of courage, a sprinkle of community, and a whole lot of self-compassion, you can turn those doubts into a narrative of triumph. So go ahead, chase those dreams—your inner critic might just need to catch its breath.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We’re a friendly team of Child and Teen Psychologists, and we’re all about helping kids, teens, young adults, and families just like yours. Think of us as your guides in the journey of raising happy and healthy kids. Our therapy is like a toolbox, full of tried-and-true methods that are backed by science—no fluff, just real, effective tools. We aim to make therapy a positive chapter, not an endless story, so you and your child can see real progress and celebrate the victories along the way.

Does your child seem extra worried or anxious about things like school, friends, or being away from you? Are they feeling super down or stuck in a perfectionist loop? Or maybe your little one is full of energy and has a tough time following the rules? We’ve got just the right kind of support for them. And if school is a struggle, or you’ve got that parent intuition that something’s not quite clicking for your child, we’re here for that too. We provide formal evaluations and are pros at figuring out what makes each child unique, whether it’s ADHD, learning differences, Autism, being gifted or twice-exceptional. Let’s team up to help your child shine bright!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
In reflecting on our journey, three core qualities have been instrumental:

– Audacity: Our drive and determination to take action have been paramount. Cultivate a mindset of boldness. Set clear goals and pursue them with tenacity. Dreams are the blueprint; action is the construction.

– Adaptability: Embracing the unpredictable nature of a new business, especially as women entrepreneurs, has been crucial. Advice: Stay flexible and be prepared to pivot. The ability to adapt is your strategic advantage in the ever-changing business landscape.

– Authenticity: Our genuine approach with clients has built a foundation of trust. Be transparent and compassionate. Your sincerity will resonate with clients and create lasting relationships.

Remember, mentorship is golden—seek out those who have successfully navigated the business world. Their guidance can help steer your venture toward success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
We are eager to connect with pediatricians and pediatric medical providers, as we recognize the invaluable insights and trust that they possess and are often are the first to notice the challenges that families encounter. By partnering with these healthcare professionals, we can provide a more integrated and supportive network for our young clients and their families. Additionally, we’re looking to expand our reach by networking with professionals outside of the mental health and healthcare sectors, such as academic learning centers, learning specialists, daycare directors, and school districts. Reach out to us and we’d love to set up a time to chat! admin@insightpsychology.health, www.insightpsychology.health
