Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katrina Maddox. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Katrina, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
Knowing I didn’t want to struggle throughout my lifetime! I’ve always worked hard and give 110% in all that I do! Lacking self discipline is a recipe for disaster. My mom was tough on us growing up and held us accountable for everything! Along with being accountable made room for self discipline.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Where do I start??? lol, I’m all things people! My nature and by trade. I’m in the mental health field! I learned at a young age I wanted to help others but never knew in what capacity. As I moved along in my studies and different experiences, mental health and the helping field kept calling me! People gravitated towards me like they knew talking with me was a safe place! I’m in the process of becoming independently licensed and getting my private practice off the ground! Nervous somewhat, for certain this is what I’m supposed to be doing.. without question!! Be on the lookout for 2024!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Press On, There’s Never Progress Without Struggle and Do unto Others As You Would Want Done Unto You! Wise words from both my parents that I’ve carried since childhood!
Press On no matter how hard things might get; reward is on the other side! My dad was a philosopher of life and often quoted notable greats. There’s never progress without struggle by the late Fredrick Douglass was a favorite of his! My mom raised us with biblical principles and made sure we knew don’t do something to someone you wouldn’t want done to yourself!
Be a good person and do some good in the world! If you need help on how to do that, go see a trained therapist. Hurt people hurt people!!!! It costs nothing to be good to others!
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Do not depend on others for my own happiness! Often times we get caught up in social media reels, life highlights, and facades of the “good life”to name a few! I don’t allow others to dictate my happiness or direction because I don’t know what others are doing, have done or have to do to be happy!
