We recently connected with Katrina Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Katrina, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
SLEEPING more!! Getting rest is vital when it comes to your body and mind. If you’re not well-rested, it can become difficult to make decisions and care for yourself and family. Healthy eating!! Another vital factor. I encourage people all the time to drink enough water, preferably through fruits, eat your vegetables and get some SUN as much as possible. Self-care for me gives me the opportunity to set boundaries without feeling guilty. I value my worth and will continue to do what is best for me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
First, I want to say, hoodoo is NOT evil. Hoodoo is foundational to community healing. Healing of relationships, restoring and strengthening, addressing intergenerational trauma, depression, justice etc. Yes, this is done through the natural realm and the world today in which all humanity moves but there is no evil done here. My favorite part of it all is honoring those who have come before me by selecting the best herbs and plants. Praying and singing in the spirit of the ancestors is beautiful! When you support Empress K, you are apart of recovering traditions that have been lost or forgotten by many. I want to give back to my supporters and community, so I have something great in mind and plan to introduce this new project in the upcoming fall.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The most important and defining part of a healer is their empathy towards others. You can’t help someone if you do not have the ability to look at things from their perspective. Another skill is being non-judge-mental. I have heard just about it all but I do not judge anyone. When a person is judged for what they have done, the energy is easily picked up whether it’s communicated through text, email or phone. I want my clients to be honest. The more they share the better I can assist. Lastly, being genuine. Most people can sense when someone is not genuine. This will affect the rapport they share and can possibly lose their trust if not business. Take note on the above and you will be good.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Sigh- there’s plenty of things that works for me. LOL. My top three are walking, meditating and journaling. The key to succeeding, being a joyous, fulfilled person is to find what works for YOU. I highly suggest meditation, journaling and ALONE TIME.
