Meet Keira Healy

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keira Healy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keira below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Keira with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Thanks to my mom’s influence, I’ve developed a strong work ethic at just twelve years old. My mom has raised me on her own as a single mother and always made sure she had all of our needs and wants. She is a beautiful example of hard work and determination.

I take pride in being a twelve-year-old who stands out from the crowd. Unlike many kids my age, I have started a small business and stuck with it, this is not some passing phase, it is something I take very seriously. I am the owner of KAH Designs, my own successful business. While I head into my last year in middle school, grateful to be closing the year out with great grades, while growing my small business and also help my Mom with my chores and caring for our 2 small pups. Fun fact, just learned a new skill-lawn care! I have been enjoying being outside, away from the screens, keeping the outside of our home looking nice by gardening, mowing and weeding. Girls can do yard work too! Just like my Mom, I’m not one to sit around and relax all day; if I am not doing school, chores, hanging out at the beach/water, it is safe to say you will find me putting my time and energy to creating art for my business every single day.

I owe my strong work ethic to the incredible woman who raised me—my single mom. Her unwavering dedication and hard work have inspired me to strive for greatness in all that I do. I am grateful to have such an amazing role model in my life. As I continue to grow and pursue my dreams at the age of twelve, I’ll always remember the valuable lessons my mom has taught me and continues to teach me. Together, we make an unstoppable team, and I’m excited to see where our paths lead us.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
In June of 2022, I started to pursue the idea of creating art with a touch of baseball, two of my favorite things. The first step is always the hardest, I tried not to worry about what other art was out there like mine and stay true to my own vision for my work. That is the best skill you need for work you are doing- be true to yourself, we don’t need a copy, just yourself! The first design that I created was a players number with things about them, from where they were born to the place, they ended up playing Pro-Ball, their favorite color or animal, really anything cool I could find out about them. I had a lot of support, but the main person backing this crazy idea that came to me was my mom. She has been there for every step of the way, every moment I scream and jump because my favorite player saw my Instagram story he was tagged in, the post that the outstanding pitcher liked or something that seems simpler like one of the many really kind players’ significant other that responded to my Instagram DM or at least read it. It is awesome to have my Mom by my side as I create my own business and follow in her hardworking footsteps.

I have now created more pieces than I can count, I love creating new art and content to find new ways to connect with my supporters. I work very hard and strive to reach the goals that I have set whether they are big or small because each step matters. I have been fortunate enough to have so many kind people follow along the way, the best is being able to have the players and their families to see my art, those are truly some of the things that keep me going when I feel a little out of my creativity juices.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My top reoccurring quality is most definitely determination. And next would be determination and then a little more determination! Don’t give up…!  If one person doesn’t like my art there is always another person that will, I am always determined to keep going no matter what happens along the way. Another aspect where I am determined in my brand is if someone doesn’t respond or read my message. For example, if I am trying to collaborate with a Graphic Designer or Photographer I get creative and figure out some other way to interact with them. I love creating art so I don’t want to miss an opportunity if one is right on front of me and available.

My brand is built on being very creative and artistic. I have always been artistic, since I could hold a crayon up to now, owning a successful illustration business. Art has been a very relaxing and calming thing for me so being able to do that as as my job makes it feel a little less like work because it is something I am so passionate about.

My advice for upcoming business owners is to never give up. No matter how hard it feels, one day you will be able to look back at all that you have accomplished. It might not be easy but nothing is, you have to work for your dreams, they don’t come overnight. Just remember to accomplish one small goal at a time.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I love this! I am always looking for my next collaborative project, which means having to find the next person to work with. Illustrating is super fun but I always need to find the perfect photo to illustrate, which means I love working with photographers who allow to me bring their photos to life even more by illustrating them. I have also worked with graphic designers in the past, instead of me bringing a photographers photo to life, the designer brings my illustration to life with their special edits. An area that I have recently started expanding my collaborative projects to is Sports News Pages and Sports Fan Pages, whether that’s illustrating their favorite player for their profile picture or creating art or logos for news pages, the ideas are endless for what we can create. Hit me up, let’s create some fun together!
