Meet Kelsea Johnson

We were lucky to catch up with Kelsea Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsea, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Hi! Thank you for having me. I rely A LOT on self care. For me, self care looks like giving myself a sort of reset. When I want to get my head in the right space to really dive into my work I’ll take a walk in the park or somewhere outside in nature. It helps ground me and I can focus and gain motivation. I listen to a wide variety of motivational podcasts while I’m walking and it has definitely had a positive impact on my effectiveness as an entrepreneur. Listening to other female entrepreneurs, that may be struggling with the same things I am, speak about how they overcame hardships, changed their mindset, and ultimately changed the trajectory of their lives is really empowering and puts me in the right headspace to conquer whatever I’m avoiding. Surrounding yourself with people who are where you want to be is an excellent form of self care for your future self.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Sparkle, blush, bronze, powder… I do it all! Soft glam and natural makeup are my specialties! I am a Professional Makeup Artist specializing in enhancing your natural features to create an elevated version of you. I have over 5 years experience with hundreds of babes across the US and Mexico. I mainly focus on bridal and photography makeup which go hand in hand. Creating a long-lasting look that not only photographs well but looks phenomenal in person is my vibe! Every woman deserves to feel their most beautiful! Therefore, I am in the process of launching online and in person 1 on 1 makeup classes to my clients! They can level up their skills and create their best self in the comfort of their own home. Stay tuned!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Determination, manifestation, and always knowing that you have room to improve are three areas that I believe that pushed me to my success so far. I remember being told that “maybe makeup is just a hobby” or “you don’t think you can really make a living that way?” But, without pure determination to prove those people wrong makeup probably would just be a hobby of mine. I was determined to become a makeup artist whether those people were in my corner or not. I also used the Law of Attraction and manifestation to put my aspirations out into the universe. I wrote in my journal 3 years ago: I will be the makeup artist on retainer for someone I will do the makeup for all their clients. Fast forward to today, I have exactly that!! I am the sole makeup artist for a thriving boudoir photography business. But, I also know I always have room to improve. I can always get better by learning new techniques and gaining knowledge from people who are already doing what I want to do! The best piece of advice I can give, is to keep going. Good things take time and you aren’t going to be the best over night. So keep going.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to collaborate with other creatives in the industry! I believe that there is room for everyone in this space because we all have a different vision and eye for our craft. I like to collab with people who are open minded and have a creative vision. This could be other makeup artists, photographers, digital creators, etc. I would love to connect and brainstorm new ideas and break the mold of current makeup.
