We recently connected with Kendra Worley and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendra , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I’ve always been a little bit of a workaholic, no matter what job I had at the time. I used to come home on the weekends when I was in college and work my shifts at our local Alex and Ani store. I grew up with my dad pushing me to “go get a job” at a really young age, like 10 years old. One of the things I am most grateful to my parents for is making me work for and earn things that I wanted. As I got older and got my first job in high school it gave me such pride to earn my own paycheck and have my own form of income. I’m extremely independent (sometimes to a fault) so I pride myself on working hard and achieving the goals I set for myself, both personally and professionally.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I started my career in bridal just days after I graduated from college. I fell into a sales position with the intention that it would be a filler until I figured out “what I really want to do”. I fell in love with helping brides find their wedding dress and more importantly, helping them feel like the best, most confident version of themselves. Six years later, By Kendra Nicole Bridal Concierge was born. This business is truly my passion. With my bridal concierge services, I get to assist brides on their wedding day with anything from steaming bridal party gowns, to getting dressed, placing their veil and even giving them a final fluff of the train before they walk down the aisle. Sometimes I refer to it as a “personal bridal assistant”. I also offer styling services leading up to the wedding day for bachelorette, boudoir, rehearsal dinner, and everything in between. My styling services can be done in person or remotely. I offer style boards to all my clients with shoppable links to everything, taking the guesswork out of ordering. I’m lucky enough to work one on one with all of my clients and ensure they truly feel like the best version of themselves on their wedding day.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, I think being genuine is one of the most important qualities to have. I want my clients to feel comfortable and confident in hiring me. People can tell when you’re just putting on a show and being fake. I pride myself in building real relationships with my clients and taking the time to get to know them. Some of my closest friends are my past brides that I met. It’s also important to lead with compassion. At the end of the day, we are all human. It’s just not that hard to just be nice to other people. I’ve found that this mentality has gotten me through potentially stressful or tumultuous situations.
Since my area of expertise is bridal and bridal fashion, that is a really important topic to stay knowledgeable and up to date on. Having confidence in myself and my abilities is crucial. You could know more information on a topic than everyone else, but if you don’t believe in yourself to actually deliver that information, it’s useless. Confidence is something that I think is always a work in progress for most people. One of my little tricks for where I feel self-doubt set in is I look at an album on my phone that I made with positive reviews, texts and posts from past clients, brides and even friends. It sounds dumb, but having all these affirming words in one place is a really great pick me up when you start doubting yourself. I love this trick, I think everyone should have a “good vibes” folder on their phone.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I’m so grateful to have such a supportive community here in Rochester. There are so many professionals in the wedding industry who have referred clients and recommended me to their clients. I am so lucky to have fellow professionals turned friends that I can lean on and get advice from. The women I have met as I’ve started my own business, are some of the smartest, strongest and kindest people I have ever met in my life. I just think it is so important to support your friends in anything they do. Every like, every share means the world to small business owners, I’m lucky enough to have an extremely supportive group of friends. My parents have also been extremely supportive and have helped me have the confidence to even launch my own business. I would not be anywhere without this community behind me.
