Meet Kenya Marie

We recently connected with Kenya Marie and have shared our conversation below.

Kenya, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
‘Resilient’ is a word I am proud to use when describing myself because it means that I have overcome a lot of uphill battles and I have the skill set to overcome future battles. I developed resiliency due to the many life challenges and adversities I have faced. These experiences taught me valuable lessons, helped me build my inner strength, and helped me develop coping mechanisms that work. I am also a huge advocate for self-reflection, as I believe that is the most favorable approach to growth. I regularly engage in self-reflection and personal growth activities, such as mindfulness, therapy, and journaling. Making these apart of my daily and weekly routine has helped me develop a deeper understanding of myself and my emotions, which have enhanced my ability to bounce back from setbacks.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an online holistic health coach and I help women develop the skillset and tools to BEING healthy, internally and externally. We help women lose body and gain lean muscle, but beyond that, we teach them how to develop the skills to build a strong mindset and regulate their nervous system as well. Being healthy goes beyond just the physical appearance, and we help women accomplish that.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important skills that I have learned that have helped me be successful in both my personal and professional journeys would be: learning from someone who done what I am trying to do (I.e. hiring a fitness coach when I wanted to learn how to be healthy and lose fat), embracing failure and seeing it as a learning opportunity and not the end of the road, and lastly, developing routines and habits that helped me BE the person that I want to be. This requires doing things I have never done before, and embracing that I won’t be “perfect” at the beginning.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Atomic Habits by James Clear is one of my favorite books that I have read multiple times. This book helped me develop healthy habits that allow me to become the person that I want to be. Some of the most impactful nuggets from the book include embracing the fact that lasting change comes down to developing ATOMIC (small) habits. Clear emphasizes that small, incremental changes—referred to as atomic habits—can lead to significant improvements over time. These tiny actions compound and create lasting change. Another amazing nugget from the book that stuck with me is that change comes down to what your Identity and Beliefs are. He explains that cultivating an identity aligned with your desired habits is the way to become the person you want to be. When you believe you are the type of person who performs a certain habit, it becomes easier to maintain.
