We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kenya Zandrowicz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kenya below.
Kenya , we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
It’s important to make self-care a daily habit. Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to take care of themselves properly. I learned about the benefits of self-care years ago and how it can positively impact our lives. Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, and Spiritually.
Before we can effectively connect with others, it’s essential to learn how to connect with ourselves. Personally, I make it a priority to spend time alone and cultivate self-awareness. This means staying present in the moment and doing things that bring me joy and peace. As a naturally creative person, I tend to gravitate toward activities that allow me to express myself.
One of my passions is meditation, and I have been a certified meditation coach for over 12 years. Meditation has played a pivitoI role in helping me to decide the path I am on. I have also found that positive affirmations and speaking kindly to myself have a positive impact on my overall well-being.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Let me start by stating, I never thought in a million years that I would be where I am today, doing all of the beautiful things that I do. I live a very eclectic life.
I am an entrepreneur I own/operate G.F.A.T.Z Inc. An Entertainment Consulting / Production Company. I have always loved the entertainment industry. From fashion to film, Liive Concerts to Speaking engagements, Television to Radio. You name it I have either been hired for a project or facilitated my own spanning from New York to Florida in the course of 25 years. Fashion is truly where it all began.
Believe it or not being a certified medication coach centered around self-awareness, and mindfulness practices that help one to understand one’s own Emotional Intelligence has assisted me in my career. I genuinely want to help an individual fulfill their dreams and live the life they have always wanted. It started out as Go From A To Zen, a philosophy of what we consume we become, which included a magazine, signature products, a radio show, and in-person sessions,
That is what helped to spawn G.F.A.T.Z. Inc. My love for entertainment, helping others, and giving back fuels what I do. I now work with various non-profits to help them raise funding and awareness to further their missions to help the communities. My most recent project was to help produce Roll With The Punches It’s Okay Knot To Be Okay Black Tie & Sneaker Gala Presented By Lamar Jackson. Hosted by Anthony Anderson. This event was in support of Mental Health Awareness. I also sit on the Board of The Charlotte Civic Orchestra a nonprofit that is dedicated to spreading the sounds of classical music for individuals of all ages to enjoy.
This is where the eclectic part comes from. I was born and raised in the city and I now live on a farm…yup. Traded in my stilettos for garden boots and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am a true entrepreneur at heart. I am the co-owner of Indie Central TV, a television distribution platform that is dedicated to independent creators. I also work hand in hand with my husband running Robotic Mower Installer. We Sell, Repair and Install Husqvarna Robotic Mowers.
Add mom, and grandmom to the mix I would say that is a pretty interesting life.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Self-Awareness, Authenticity, and Resilience are 3 qualities that truly helped me on this journey. For anyone who is looking to make a change in life, you must first start by looking at and understanding who you truly are and what life you truly want to live.
We can get trapped in living a life based on others’ fears or expectations. They can project their fears onto us by convincing us it can’t be done. But anything you can dream of can take place. It will require work and resilience. Life comes at you fast, before you know it 5 years can go by and you get discouraged. That can weigh you down to the point of giving up.
When you become self-aware and true to yourself you begin to make the proper choices to help you get to that next point in life. This is all a form of Self Care. You owe it to you.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Our emotions dictate how we see the world. Today the focus is so heavy on maintaining our mental health. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health. With so many negative things impacting our daily lives, it is no wonder so many of us feel stressed or overwhelmed.
The world of event production is a faced paced industry within itself. It has many moving parts and each one can send you spiralling. Then there are the life happens moments that are completely out of your control and we all have those. I believe I have become a master at controlling MY emotions when I am overwhelmed. When I am overwhelmed I STOP and Sit quietly.
1. First thing you do is sit within yourself. Be still, get quiet, and check in on yourself.
2. Whatever the feeling is that you are feeling ask yourself why?
3. Determine if it is within or out of your control.
4. Acceptance, Accept the things you cannot change find the strength to change the things you can.
But the one thing I always do is practice a form of self-care. Create a self-care regimen. For me it is meditation, for someone else it may be painting, playing music, etc.
