Meet Keya Clark

We were lucky to catch up with Keya Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Keya, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
The meaning of self care has evolved so much for me overtime. For me, it used to mean taking vacations, pampering and way back when before I knew it was self care I used to write, mainly poetry. Don’t get me wrong, those things are definitely still on the list; lets be real! Meditation has taken my selfcare to levels I’ve never imagined. Tending to my heart-mind coherence has become the very ONE thing that I absolutely can not go with out. Another thing that I have gotten back into as an adult is reading. Many of the books I read are on physics, the law of attraction, understanding your mind and body and how we create our own reality. I would have NEVER thought in a million years I’d be learning about physics for fun. Many of these books have also taught me ways to go deeper in my meditation. Meditation helps me keep my nervous system calm, it helps me return to my true self, reminding me of my inner power and connect with the frequency of the earth, of love, of abundance, of Spirit, God, Source or whatever you label your higher power. Its how I stay sane with all the things that goes on in my life and life in general. Its how I get my heart and mind to work together instead of out of sync. When those two are in coherence that’s the sweet spot, that is happiness. Meditation helps me to make clearer, calmer more concise decisions. I’ve learned how to create by allowing the inspiration to come vs creating out of motivation, from a need of money or to feel relevant or just to be doing something. I’ve divorced grind culture. That’s not aligned.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I teach, I empower, I guide, I lead and all in love. Yes, I am a personal fitness trainer and brand owner but there is a certain element to my practice that makes it so much more than just that. My clients are not only taught and guided physically but they are spiritually fed as well. It’s all mental. Every part of life is mental first. The body follows the mind and when the mind is following the body we need to reevaluate some things. Everything I do, I like to do from an aligned stand point so that I can be more in tune. I love when I meet with clients and what I planned for the day directly meets their need. That’s not coincidence. If the only thing you’ve gotten while training with me is a nice body, I’ll refund your money. I believe I attract the clients that are handpicked and perfect. It’s bigger than a nice body; it’s a great byproduct though!
Now while I never saw fitness in my future, fashion has always been in my heart. I grew up poor so I didn’t know much about designer. As I got older I learned more of course. I always just wanted cute and comfy things for us and by us. Especially being overweight up until my 30’s, apparel that fit my style while being cute and comfy was in the back of my mind. I say the back because at the time, I had no idea how I was gonna make something like that happen. Now I understand the how isn’t my job. My job is to dream it up ( and simply living life helps me do that), believe it can happen, know its happening and allow the path to find me. I now have an apparel brand that has reached across the states and beyond and most importantly, people feel good wearing it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I don’t actually have to look back. These skills and qualities I use everyday and will most definitely use throughout my life, in one capacity or another. I’ll start with Faith. It all starts with believing. Before this was heavily based in religion. Throughout my journey that faith and hope has evolved to knowing. I remind myself moment to moment that not matter what it may seem like, things are always working out for me. I remember being a young girl in the slums of NOLA thinking, there’s got to be more to the world than this. Without my foundation being rooted in faith, I could not tell you where I’d be. I don’t know if we want to label optimism a skill, quality are of knowledge or all three lol. Since I could remember I have always tried to see the light and positivity in every situation. I’m so happy I’ve gotten to a place where I don’t have to look for it; it’s quite obvious 99.9% of the time. One of my favorite quotes is ” We don’t see the world as it is, we see it as we are,” and I couldn’t agree more. The law of attraction will see that your world will be full of things that YOU believe is true and real.
Lastly, I’m listing not caring what anyone thinks as a skill. A PRIORITY. A MUST! You got to go with your move. No one knows what God, spirit or life is communicating to you. Trust your gut, it’s where 95% of our serotonin is and it never steers you wrong. Go with what feels good, even when it seems illogical, do the thing that lights you up when you think about it. Always trust the process.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
The very first thing that comes to mind is becoming unconditional. Learning how be happy despite any outer circumstance, situation or person’s behavior. Learning and understanding that my true happiness comes with in and I have the power to focus where I want and feel how I want. My inner world determines my outer world. This growth is directly connected to my meditation, it’s because of meditation that I am able to achieve this superpower. I’ve enjoyed getting to the root of beliefs that don’t serve me. In order the be about it, you can’t just talk, you have to feel. How we feel is a sum of the thoughts we’re thinking and what we are thinking is linked to our beliefs. The thing I do most is pay attention to how I feel and immediately recognize if I’m thinking a thought that moves me further away from what I want to manifest in the physical.
