Meet Khadijatou Jammeh

We recently connected with Khadijatou Jammeh and have shared our conversation below.

Khadijatou , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Growing up, I struggled with embarrassment over my Gambian heritage, skin color, and name. I would not even speak my parents native tongue in public. These insecurities eroded my confidence. However, as I matured, I embraced my identity, appreciating the strength in my roots as a Gambian American Muslim woman. This newfound pride boosted my confidence, and today, I stand tall, grateful for the journey to self-acceptance and empowerment.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As the owner of Great Ginger LLC, I specialize in crafting raw ginger juices blended with natural fruit juices and organic sugar cane. What sets my juices apart is my personal journey: despite initially disliking ginger, I began making juices when my family fell ill. This experience motivated me to experiment with different flavors and share my revitalizing concoctions with my community, promoting a healthy well-being for all. Each flavor is carefully crafted to not only entice your taste buds but also provide a boost to your well-being. Our dedication to health and flavor means that every sip offers a delightful fusion of taste and wellness.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My passion for wellness and health, my resilience to overcome challenges and setbacks, and my creativity were the most impactful in my journey with Great Ginger. It definitely takes a village and I truly appreciate all of those who have helped start Great Ginger from the ground up, who have supported Great Ginger thus far and looks forward to what is to come for us. My advice to people who are early in their journey would be to follow your passion, stay open minded, embrace challenges as a learning experience, seek support when times are hard and to stay true to your authentic self.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful things my parents did for me and my siblings were to prioritize our family’s well-being, instilled a deep appreciation for education, nurtured our cultural identity, lead by example and created a supportive environment. Their sacrifices, values, and guidance have undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping the woman I am today. I am forever indebted to them.
