We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kiara Potts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kiara below.
Hi Kiara, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
For self-care, I’ve learned to find joy and relaxation in a number of activities such as massages, facials, shopping, hiking, binge watching shows, dinner with friends, girl’s night’s, getting my hair and nails done, regular visits to the gym, and sometimes even a quick road trip for the weekend. Self-care has impacted my effectiveness by providing a much needed recharge and way to relax from the everyday routine of my normal schedule. It is really a saving grace for me mentally and emotionally and it has helped create a better work-life balance.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a small-town woman who left home in pursuit of a change. When making the decision to go to college, I never imagined I’d be where I am today. I am the Founder of Key Inspires, Writing and Resume Services and President of The Potts Foundation, Inc. My friends and family have graciously described me as an “Instrument of Help” and a “Worldwide Beacon of Inspiration,” but when I look in the mirror, I see a girl who evolved into the women she is today, by taking accountability and completing the necessary actions to follow. I am excited to leave my mark on this world my inspiring others and cultivating a space of positivity and overall motivation that turns into inspiration. As I continue to evolve into the women God has called me to be, I can only hope that my words continue to impact those who are needing them most. I never imagined Key Inspires would mature into a brand that literally means exactly what it says, Key (me) Inspires (you). I am in constant awe that God uses me in the way He does. It is a testament to His trust and faith in little ole me.
I am a Writer, Blogger, and depository of all thing’s inspiration. As I continue to further explore my writing and complete various writing projects, I can only hope that my words continue to impact those who are needing them the most.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that were the most impactful in my journey were customer service, administration, and organization. The advice I would give for those early in their journey would be to do your research and study on what qualities and skills are relevant to what you do. It is important that we all remain teachable. The most successful business owners are lifetime students who are always looking for ways to grow and develop. We now have access to endless information through the internet and social media, which should be used for our benefit and not just out of boredom.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is pull back on everything and retreat. My retreat is not a means of isolation but more so a recalibration. My recalibration comes in the form of taking a mental health day from all things work related and sometimes people too. My advice to anyone feeling overwhelmed would be to step away and take a breather. Sometimes, we all need to literally stop and smell the roses, as they say. That phrase for me simply means to slow down. Whether it means to slow down in our mind or slow down with our body, my advice when feeling overwhelmed is to always slow down and reset. During your reset, do what makes you happy to feel balanced again, take a drive into some quick self-care activities and recenter yourself.
