We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kim Cameron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kim below.
Kim, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
I hate to fail. The only way I know to be self disciplined is to keep pushing forward to avoid failure. Because, you have to keep trying.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a singer, songwriter and filmmaker. I believe more simplistically, I am a storyteller. I believe we all have great stories to tell about ourselves or or interaction with others. I have written, in the form of song, 400+ stories. Mostly love stories, because I am a hopeless romantic. At the same time, while I do not have kids of my own, I have a passion for shaping learning minds. I have written a children’s book series the young readers which I have turned into full length feature films, called Seaper Powers. Having taught vocal lessons to the kids for years, I have always appreciated the young minded spirit and their eagerness to learn more than they did the day before. I have found that spirit infectious.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
It’s so easy to be discouraged when you begin a new journey. You are still learning and are bound to make mistakes. The key is to take on those mistakes, learn from them so that you are smarter the next time. Many will give up instead of looking at those mistakes as a part of their education process. After all, who does not want to become smarter in their craft?
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Of course. Learning how to navigate outside of the USA in the film world. Cultures and understanding foreign contracts and entertainment norms in the rest of the world is very much my current challenge.
