We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kim Stewart a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Lots of prayer. Asking God to remind me how He created me in a unique way and then to remind me every day so I believe it. The struggle is real!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a Podcast Strategist for authors, and I host the Book Marketing Mania podcast. I help authors leverage podcasts, as a host or guest, to reach and serve their target readers.
I love working behind the scenes and listening to podcasts. Some of my favorite books and authors I’ve discovered by hearing them host or guest on podcasts.
There’s nothing like getting to hear someone’s story, and especially a struggle they’ve faced and overcome in their everyday life, whether that’s their faith journey, their relationships, or their health. It’s so inspiring and has been life-changing for me and I want to help others do the same.
I’m looking forward to 2024 and helping writers and authors launch their podcasts so they can build their audience and market their books to the people God called them to write for. Podcasting is an amazing platform to share your message far and wide.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Learning and applying my strengths of relationship building, strategic thinking, and service all played a huge part in my entrepreneurial journey. Going into business with a service-first mentality made my work so much fun. I initially reached out to authors whose books I read and wanted to help them share their message online with more readers like me.
If you want to work with clients you admire, reach out and offer to serve them first. See how you can help them. It feels so much better than trying to sell your services, especially if they don’t know who you are yet.
Helping clients create and execute on their marketing plans as a strategic thinker is always appreciated and my clients often say I anticipate their needs and think of things they never would have.
If you are supporting clients with their marketing strategies, always be aware of what their goals are so that you are prioritizing your time on things that will help them move the needle forward. If you don’t know, just ask!
I should have mentioned relationships first because I truly believe it’s the most important skill. But many of mine have been built after I served clients and built trust because I supported their goals in a strategic way.
Other relationships have been built over time just simply being in community together. I truly believe iron sharpens iron as the Bible encourages us to do. There’s no need for comparison or competition. There’s enough business to go around and even if we offer the exact same service, we all execute differently. I love having friends in business that I can refer clients to, ask silly questions, learn from, and lend a helping hand to.
If you want to build a business that withstands the long haul, focus on relationships and community. Don’t go it alone.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents always told me I could do anything as long as I put my mind to it, and that “we don’t have to keep up with the Joneses because we are the Joneses.” Well, we weren’t really…but you know what I mean. 🙂
