Meet Kimberly Cannon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kimberly Cannon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Kimberly , so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
The two main places my optimism comes from are my family, my parents taught me to always look on the bright side, consistently reminding me how lucky I am I get to do something vs I having to do it. And second by practicing gratitude, first thing in the morning I try to list what I am grateful for and it really helps boost my mood for the rest of the day!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
From a very young age I developed a passion for hair, working along side my older sister in her Philadelphia Salon. I moved to New York City to pursue a career in Hair Color specifically, training under the top celebrity colorists. I love connecting with my clients and am dedicated to stay on top of the latest trends and techniques to ensure each client leaves with a personalized and stunning look.

One thing I have learned more recently is my passion and love for meeting other hair stylists, I have been teaching classes to colorists around the country and I am excited to continue to grow in that field.

My husband and 3 children now live in Philadelphia, where we enjoy a nice balance of work and family time.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. I was very confident that I could succeed. I always felt that if I wanted something I just needed to keep trying and I would achieve.

2. I am always open to learning, I love to surround myself with people who inspire me to be the best I can be. I stay close to people I admire and try to learn everything I can from them.

3. Listen, try to listen when a client speaks and repeat back to them to make sure you are both on the same page!

My advice would be to find someone who’s career you are inspired by and try to learn as much as you can from them.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to collaborate with other hair stylists/colorists. Hair is a career with so many opportunities that a lot of younger stylists don’t know about. I would love to educate the up and coming stylist on different ways to pursue a career in hair.
