Meet Kristina Johnson

We were lucky to catch up with Kristina Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Kristina, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think that I overcame my imposter syndrome by finally believing in myself. It took quite a long time, but after doing social media management for 10 years+ I realized my worth, my education on the subject and my confidence.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a social media manager for an excellent senior living company in Denver called Ascent Living Communities. Before working full time with Ascent I ran my own social media company called Amuse Social. Ascent Living Communities was one of my biggest clients and when they asked me to come on full time in October of 2021 I was excited to increase their presence on social media. I have been working in social media since 2011 where I started in my hometown of Las Vegas, NV. I enjoy creating content and mostly working in the hospitality and food and beverage industry before making the transition to senior living.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Determination, hard work and networking are three things that I couldn’t have done without when it came to starting my own social media management company. It really does “take a village” and without my networking groups that I am a part of I couldn’t have got my feet off the ground. Determination, hard work and never quitting, even when I was working long hours on my website and with my clients, was crucial in the beginning.

My advice for folks early in their entrepreneurial journey is to make sure that you have enough funds to last you at least 3-6 months before diving in head first. I definitely was not prepared in that area and looking back I wish I would have prepared better financially. Also, don’t be afraid to use your resources and ask for help! I could not have started my company had I not had help from friends in the industry that helped me with my website, logo, etc.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The book I read a lot when starting Amuse Social was “Everything is Figureoutable” by Marie Forleo. It played an important role in helping me realize that there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do. Her book helped me find solutions to many road blocks I had in my journey and helped me to stop making any excuses.

A great quote from her book is: “You can do whatever you set your mind to if you just roll up your sleeves, get in there, and do it. Everything is figureoutable.” I kept this motto with me in my first year and I still think about that quote on a daily basis when there is something I think I can’t do. For example, I am an older Millennial and sometimes I really DO NOT GET TikTok, lol. Marie taught me that everything is Figureoutable and with her motto and many YouTube videos I now can confidently say I can make a pretty great TikTok video for the company I work for and even for myself personally.
