Meet Lacey Vandermeer

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lacey Vandermeer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacey, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up with a single mom she has taught me so much about work ethic. To get what you want you have to work hard and dream about it. This is something my mom has always said. Also, watching her manage two jobs and two kids made me work so hard to what I want. I have had a hard time getting full time but I have kept working and making the best of all aspects of my business. I have had a fun time doing my business that I keep working towards being the best I can be in my profession. I have had a wonderful role model to help me through most of everything I have gone through. She is a very inspirational in my life that I hope to be half of what she is when I become her age.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Denver based wedding/portrait photographer.I have been a professional photographer for 14 plus years. I love documenting special moments from nature to still life to people. I have an artistic eye for composition.

My favorite thing to capture is people and their invaluable moments. I love telling everyones story with my photography.

I also recently started diving into doing landscape photography and selling my art at local pop up shows and through my website. I hope to have my own gallery and studio one day.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities and skills that have been the most impactful have but defiantly listening to my clients. Always listen because you will the most from your clients. Two would be not afraid of stepping out of the box. changed the angle of the Frame while taking the photo. Lastly I always get out and learn as much as I can to make my photos better and myself update on all the products out there. Always learning about your skill makes you the best of the best. Don’t be afraid of trying new classes and workshops. You will find some great techniques to use.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
One challenge I have always have had would be giving more direction in posing. I want people to be themselves so I tend to let the family or couples just enjoy themselves but with a little direction there is better results. So, for myself I try to get more out there and not be afraid with directing and touch people. Just ask and people will be more willing to be less nervous and enjoy their photo being taken. Having fun with your clients will make the best photos and the clients more confident .
