We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lada Egorova. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lada below.
Lada, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever head any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
I try to free my mind. Either become bored so ideas and thoughts can come more easily. Or I seek for inspiration in other artists by scrolling on social media, websites, newspapers. I also watch movies, go to an art gallery or a museum or discover a new music album. Sometimes I also like to go for a walk and observe the world around me.
But I always try to empty my mind, if I’m focused on what I have to do, or on problems and things that make me anxious, I can’t have space for creative ideas. Meditation, being outside helps a lot to clear these types of negative thoughts.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Russian-French filmmaker, photographer and writer. I made over ten short films, have worked on several movie sets as cinematographer, camera assistant, script supervisor and 1st assistant director. I am also a photographer fascinated by capturing everyday moments. I enjoy street photography but I also specialize in portrait, fashion, brand, and event photography.
In a couple of months I will be producing and directing the pilot episode of my first comedy TV show “BLIN” about the Slavic community in Los Angeles. We will launch our crowdfunding campaign on July 17th, so stay tuned, we’d love any help we could have.
I’m also working on a feature film script that will be shot end of 2023-beginning 2024 and I am preparing the release of my second photography book.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Perseverance despite rejections, setbacks, struggles between your life and your artistic career is what will help you grow as an artist and find opportunities. Always staying creative and making projects is also important so you can grow your skills, show to other people that you’re always in the business and to expand your creativity is vital.
Finally, being able to control your mind when you’re self-sabotaging yourself is important. As artists, self-doubt is always present in our lives and artistic career. But you have to be stronger than your thoughts and not let one bad day make you think you’re not good enough or worthy of what you want to achieve.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I like to make a list of all the things I have to do. Then I order it in different sections depending on what they’re linked to (different projects, everyday life chores or artistic project, deadlines etc) I then rank them in order of importance. Making a to-do list and scheduling over a week or month or a day how I will get all these tasks done helps a lot to relax and organizing everything reassures my mind as I know that I have written down everything so I can let these go out of my mind.
