Meet Lakeshia Pearsall

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lakeshia Pearsall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lakeshia below.

Lakeshia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
As a black woman in a profession that often lands me in a room with no similar faces, I’ve learned to embrace my uniqueness as a strength rather than a hindrance. I maintain my composure by staying true to my values and beliefs, and by embracing my passion, creativity, and emotional intelligence. I’ve honed my skills in graphic design and branding, knowing that excellence speaks louder than any biases. Building strong relationships with business owners and brands has been essential. This made it a lot easier to gain trust and respect in my industry. Now, I’m trying to pay it forward to take it a step further by helping to empower other diverse voices in the digital creative world. By staying authentic and grounded in who I am, I’ve not only succeeded in a challenging environment but also started to pave the way for others like me to follow.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the CEO and lead designer of Jay Mack Brand Studio. My company specializes in creating visually captivating brand identities and graphic designs that resonate with our clients and their audiences. We help businesses, brands, and organizations to stand out from their competitors.

What’s most exciting about what we do is seeing our clients’ visions come to life through our work. We love collaborating with passionate entrepreneurs and businesses to help them stand out in their industries and make a lasting impact. We have worked with businesses who just needed a logo, and others who needed to start from scratch and build a cohesive brand strategy, and a lot of things in between. We thrive on bringing ideas to fruition. This is really what’s important to me as an entrepreneur-being able to create something that is meaningful and being able to help someone to make an impact at the same time.

Our brand is all about empowerment and authenticity. We believe in the power of design to tell stories, evoke emotions, and drive meaningful connections. With that being said, we are expanding to offer subscription services, providing businesses with ongoing graphic design and branding support on a monthly basis. Our clients enjoy priority access to our team, cost-effective branding solutions, and the flexibility to scale up or down as needed. With our subscription model, we’re able to ensure consistent, high-quality design work while allowing businesses to focus on what they do best.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities stand out as particularly impactful: perseverance, uniqueness, and confidence. Perseverance has been essential in overcoming challenges and setbacks, driving me forward even when things seemed difficult. My advice to those early in their journey is to stay resilient, embracing failures as learning opportunities, and never giving up on their dreams. Additionally, embracing my uniqueness has allowed me to stand out in a crowded market. I follow my own path and that has allowed me to stay true to myself. I encourage others to focus on discovering what makes them different and leveraging that to their advantage. Lastly, confidence has played a crucial role in my success, enabling me to pitch ideas and deliver results with conviction. To develop confidence, I suggest practicing regularly, seeking feedback, and acknowledging achievements along the way. Ultimately, cultivating perseverance, embracing uniqueness, and building confidence are essential steps towards achieving success in any journey.
