We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaNaja Love a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi LaNaja, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self esteem developed slowly but surely. I was always very shy and timid when I was younger. I never really had a voice until I got to high school. After I finally graduated and stepped into the business world I became aware that if I don’t network and meet people my business could not thrive. A huge part of being in this world is knowing who you are and being full aware of your morals and values. Those two things play a huge role in how you view your self and how the world views you.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Hair Stylist and currently becoming apart of the Public Speaking world. I always tell my clients I love how life works because I started out styling hair which gave me the tools or built the momentum for my ultimate purpose. Being a Hairstylist allowed me to meet different women, learn how to connect and form relationships. I will always hold a special place in my heart for not only my clients but the gift I was given to not only be able to physically touch individuals but also emotionally and mentally. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing relationships I have formed with my clients over the years.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were compassion, humility and joy. Skills are very important as well as far as what you know when it comes to your service or passion but I honestly can’t describe how far I have come just from people loving who I am as a person. Every woman who steps into my shop is not just a customer or client. They are a human who is taking the time to come experience my service and what I have to offer so not only do I go above and beyond with my service but also with my character.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They allowed me to figure life out along the way. The older I get the more I realize that our parents were really just doing the best they could with what they knew at the time and I’m just really glad my parents never gave up on me or talked fear into anything I’ve ever wanted to do. I have not quite done everything I want to do in life just yet but majority of the things I do my parents always give me their grace. Whether I fail or succeed they will always be there.
