Meet Landon Loewen

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Landon Loewen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Landon, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience in my business comes from learning to overcome the pressures and struggles of supply chain issues with the hot sauce industry. I have designed recipes that use readily available products and focus to provide an affordable price point on Hot Sauce for todays struggling economy. I am always trying to adapt to the ever changing economy of the United States while providing flavors from around the world.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a Hot Sauce Manufacturer here in Loveland, Colorado. I have always loved spicy things and extreme flavors and gardening. In 2018 I built a greenhouse in my backyard and started growing Jamaican Scotch Bonnets, I ended up growing way, way too many pepper plants and was trying to figure out what to do with all the peppers. I ended up making a hot sauce adapted from a Jamaican recipe , it has Mango , Pineapple and Ginger paired with the Bonnets. It’s called Kingston Fire which is named after a Reggae song “Kingston Fyah” by a group called New Kingston. I sold that one flavor for a year with great success at Farmers markets before expanding and creating 6 other flavors of hot sauce. All the other flavors are ranging from Mild to Wild as far as pepper heat lever and ingredients. I use smoked garlic and roasted ingredients in most of my recipes. My goal is to make boring food taste good and good food taste amazing!!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I think it’s great to always have the urge to learn more and explore deeper into the industry you want to be a part of, even if you think you have it all figured out.

Always be a student and humble yourself enough to learn from the pros, you don’t have to be a “copy cat” but it’s smart to watch and learn what works and what doesn’t.

And number three would be to never be afraid to fail , when we fail at something we are passionate about , we learn better and more adaptive ways to overcome the problems.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to get my products into some hot sauce/spice shops and monthly subscription boxes. I offer wholesale pricing to businesses and you can contact me at [email protected]
