Meet LaSheba Boyd

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful LaSheba Boyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

LaSheba, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I must say, it’s my clients! At the initial consultation, not only am I getting to know the space, I’m also taking the opportunity to get to know my client. I’m paying attention to all the details they mention without knowing and use this knowledge later to create a space that has their desires represented.

I’ll be honest, sometimes it’s difficult to express their desires in a space, but I love a challenge. It requires me to be innovative and seek out new solutions.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is LaSheba Boyd and I am the owner and chief designer for my interior design company, Deck the Halls. This all started with a love for the holidays, Christmas in particular! My daddy loved the holidays and how they brought loved ones together and he raised me with the same love of the holiday. So when I grew up and was able to decorate my own home I took the opportunity to be a bit extra, coordinating trees and room decor! Prior to opening my business, my services have been requested by family, friends, and strangers. I decided to take a shot on me.

Others have also always admired how I decorated my home and requested those services as well. This portion of my business has blossomed in ways I could not have imagined. From incredible opportunities, such as this one, to talks of branded home decor items, Deck the Halls is truly my passion becoming my career and I’m so grateful I get to do what I love everyday.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My innate ability to create, my love for serving others, and my passion for creating beautiful spaces have contributed to my journey. It really all balls down to me working in my gift, and allowing myself to be genuinely me every day. I encourage anyone desiring to turn their passion into a business to constantly check in with themselves and ensure they are doing what still feels right to them; ensure they are still living their dreams and no one else’s.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I go back to my love of spending time with my loved ones. I’ll plan a fun activity with my husband, spend some time with family, or meet up with one of my girlfriends. You just don’t know how refreshing refilling your cup with laughter and love is until you experience it. It’s really away to keep me going.

I suggest others to find what refills their cup, because you cannot pour from an empty one.
