Meet Laura Moreau

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laura Moreau a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Laura with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I would say from my parents, looking at them and listening to them taught me that work is no difference than life : being polite, respectful, ponctual and reliable are essential values in this world.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
So my name is Laura, I grew up in France, I have been living in the U.S. since 10 years and I’m now based in Los Angeles. I’m a photographer, I work mostly with musicians as I used to work in the music industry but I also work on a personal project that leans more to fine art photography. My main medium is film photography, I love spending time experimenting with old stock of films, reading about 80’s fashion photography and looking for Caffenol recipe to develop my B&W film. Lately I have been excited to start working on my first photo book, it’s going to be long but worth it, there is no other feelings than having your photos printed.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say being passionate, curious, diligent. When I look at why I’m doing photography it’s because I need it, no questions asked, it’s a passion. Curious, well if you have an idea, meaning a concept or an image in mind, but are not sure if this could work, do it, do it again if it fails, it’s part of learning, being humble and listening to your guts. Once you get there, it’s just magic. Diligent, It’s very Important when you work with people, you have to understand and adjust to someone being in a non formal position (meaning in the front of a camera), not asking to much, being open to their ideas, keeping a positive attitude and delivering on time.

For advice I would say, as we speak photography : follow your guts, experiment and have fun it’s luck to be able to work as a photographer and at the end of the day we are not saving lives

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Always ! Other photographers with who i can nerd about things, learning and sharing techniques as well as anybody that needs what I do. Dm me it’s easier :).
