Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lauren Cunningham. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lauren, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
When you’re starting out as a business owner, you naturally look around at others who are already successfully doing what you want to do. To learn from them. To be inspired by them. But I found that over time, I stopped being inspired, and I started comparing. It was a wake-up call for me; I needed to establish what I wanted Everyday Organize to be known for. What our brand would be. What I hoped people would stay about us to their friends and family. I had to do my own work and stop looking around for answers. Once I realized what we are, and what we aren’t, it gave me the confidence to stop looking around and just focus on us, our clients, our success.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We all have a super power – mine is organizing homes! It’s not just something I became professionally one day, it’s who I am. I can walk into a space and immediately visualize the organizing potential. I see what a space could become. And I have a deep desire to help others overcome their stuff and find freedom in their homes again. That’s why I started Everyday Organize over three years ago. From decluttering, to unpacking from a move, to organizing and styling spaces, our team loves it all! Not only do we help organize spaces, but we create and teach you systems that can be maintained long-term. Each day we organize, we get to help KC families love their spaces again.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) Grit – not letting hard things stop my momentum 2) Knowing my strengths – and hiring those whose strengths complement mine to fill in the gaps
3) Creating margin – intentionally building into my schedule rest and/or activities that fill me up

Take the time to honestly figure out what you need and what fills you. Running a business as an Enneagram 3 can easily leave me working 24/7 because I constantly have a list of new things I want to figure out and implement. But that just leads me to burn out. I’ve learned that I need to hire for the areas of the business that deplete me, and be intentional about when I’m working and when I’m not so I have time and space outside of work.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal clients are woman between the ages of 35-55 with kids at home or recent empty nesters. While we work with all types of people in Kansas City, we absolutely love to help moms find calm in the chaos. There is so much pressure on moms, so we want to make every part of their home function smoother for the entire family, so they can spend their free time doing what they love. Our team is a group of women who are moms – we’ve experience the same struggles in our own homes and want to teach others how to find and maintain organization in theirs.
