We were lucky to catch up with Lauren Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lauren, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I use peoples’ negativity as free fuel to propel the rocket that is me forward!
Have you ever heard a commercial say “all prices are subject to change?” I always say that people are subject to change! We change our minds, personalities, loyalty, and so forth depending on where we are in life. Yet, it’s only natural and nothing to be hurt or angry about. Sometimes people will like you and encourage you, and those same people might form hurtful opinions of you and spread that to others.
Having a deep sense of self is the way you immunize yourself from that. Life has taught me how to choose to believe in what I knew about me for certain, which is I am a good person and everything works out in my favor. I learned this mainly after a long time of taking people’s views of me into consideration until I realized that I can only please myself for sure, and everyone else maybe,
I focus more on feeling optimistic and having healthy self-esteem and doing that always reminds me that Ilike, understand, and love myself a lot. Developing stronger self-love has taught me to be forgiving of others even when they misunderstand me or hurt me with their words. You have to remember that others aren’t fully loving themselves either if they’re treating you this way. The trick is not to let the pain make you hard because when you block out pain, you also block out love. Without love, you forget that there’s hope for better days.
Self-love also taught me that people hate, nay-say, criticize, etc. others because that’s how they treat themselves. It’s not even personal. My feelings might get hurt sometimes, but in reality, no one can slow me down or knock me off my path as long as I know who I am and accept all of myself. That will always be the advantage I have over anyone trying to bring me down.
Also, sometimes people don’t like you just because they don’t like you. The reason doesn’t matter. No one owes you to like or support you. But you owe yourself to always believe in you and to reject ideas of you that don’t resonate with who you know you are. So nowadays when someone is “hating” on me or naysaying, it’s okay. It really is. They’re entitled to their opinions. But it only backfires (laughs)! I feed off of it. It makes me grin a bit wider and reaffirms for me that I’m everything that I know I am.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the owner of Flower Chile LLC which is an organic- and raw-ingredient based skincare, bath, and body line designed to pamper you with natural ingredients and encourage you to take time for yourself on a daily basis. How you feel has a lot to do with the quality of your life. Many of us are rushing, stressing, or extremely busy on a daily basis; we want to encourage our customers to not steal, but rather incorporate, moments of feeling good and relaxation into your life. That should not be a luxury, but a part of your daily or weekly routine. Life is supposed to feel good. We’re here to help you tap into you inner Flower Chile!
What ‘s so special about us is that we we not only care about your sense of well-being, but we care about the environment as well. After all, it’s our primary home! The condition of this planet is changing everyday, and as humans, we have so much to do with that. While it’s not possible or necessary that everyone has a complete lifestyle change to be more eco-friendly, we love that we provide an avenue for those who are interested or already mindful of the benefits to use clean handmade products, choose waste-free packaging, and minimize or eliminate artificial ingredients and preservatives. We have both vegan and vegetarian options, and on top of that, our products are gentle and effective for all skin types.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say being disciplined, believing in myself, and keeping my mind clear have helped me the most.
Discipline is tricky because no one is there to make you do anything. You have to make yourself do what needs to be done. You have to continually seek self-improvement as well. When things go right, I take credit for it. When they go wrong, I take credit for that, too. Thinking this way encourages me to focus, be honest with myself, and stay on top of my game. You can’t afford to be afraid to stumble or make mistakes. It’s normal and necessary. But you can always afford to keep trying until you get things right. At the same time, you have to know when stop, rest, and reflect.
Self-belief is another powerful key to success. because YOU are the center of your world. Everything that happens in your life revolves around you, so you really do have to focus on balancing yourself first. If you want to strengthen the foundation of your self-belief, I encourage you to dedicate time to introspection. Turning inward helps you understand yourself better. The more you do, the easier it is to know what you can or can’t handle, and what you should or shouldn’t bother with. These answers lie within but are hard to hear when you don’t tune out your own critical voice. This can mean paying less attention to people and situations that perpetuate the negative thoughts you may already struggle with. Be kind to yourself! Care about how you feel! It’s nearly impossible to succeed when you are confused and discouraged.
Pretty much everything I’ve mentioned today is tied together by what I’ve learned about keeping my mind clear. When you’re involved with life in general, it’s easy for lots of small but important things to go unnoticed and undervalued. Truthfully, only a handful of subjects are actually important although we give lots of airtime to things that are merely distractions. Trying to navigate life without taking time to still your mind is like trying to see through the surface of a pond that is constantly rippling. This might sound strange, but I’ve found that stepping back from the world by retreating into a calm, relaxed headspace for a few minutes every day helps me to see things way more clearly. It may feel like a waste to squeeze in time to do this,, especially if you’re busy often, but I promise that if you do, you’ll make way better use of your time and energy.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was equip me with a mindset of I can do anything I put my mind to. They have always said that they trusted in my ability to succeed, and it seems they were right! I naturally excelled at all things academic, and I always had their full support. Their encouragement to strive to excel gave me the desire to do exactly that, and it mostly always was easy because their belief in me taught me to believe in myself. I also took interest in the wide variety of traveling and cultural experiences they exposed me to which resulted in me being well-rounded at a young age. This made me more versatile and adaptable.
This is so valuable to me because it’s where a big part of my sense of security lies– knowing that “I can.” Whatever I need to accomplish or whoever I need to communicate with, I can do it (or learn to) effectively. It’s a healthy, permanent confidence boost which stems from love, the greatest force of all. They supported and invested into me academically before I ever started formal education and made countless sacrifices to mold me into a competent, fearless, and diligent critical thinker. They also wanted me to be an upstanding member of my community who is kind to others no matter who they are. These are the makings of a productive, prosperous entrepreneur.
