Hi Laurie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers.
Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Looking back, it feels like my purpose chose me, not the other way around. After high school, unsure of my path, a guidance counselor suggested college. To help pay for it, I took a job at a group home, following my brother’s lead. There, I met and befriended two amazing women. As graduation loomed, they mentioned we should all go to graduate school together for our MSW and I, lacking other plans, went for it.
Each step, from college to grad school to jobs I wasn’t initially drawn to, felt like “going with the flow,” but it led me to become a therapist. In my career, I often accepted jobs I wasn’t sure about, but they turned out to be the best choices. It felt like more than coincidence, like a bigger plan unfolding.
Through my work with trauma, I discovered alternative healing techniques. As I learned and used them, I healed myself too. This journey brought clarity, peace, and joy, and I realized how all my past experiences led me to this purpose, which continues to grow.
The amazing thing is, as I heal, I can help my clients even more, achieving incredible results. Partnering with someone on their healing journey is the best job in the world. It’s not just work; it’s my passion and purpose, and it fills my heart with warmth every day.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I understand the deep impact of trauma and relational wounds because I’ve walked that path myself. It’s a journey of uncovering hidden emotions, integrating unhealed aspects of self , letting go of outdated beliefs, healing family wounds passed down through generations and discovering an inner strength you never knew you possessed. And I’m here to tell you, the transformation on the other side is breathtaking.
For over 30 years, I’ve helped individuals heal from their past and emerge stronger, happier, and more connected to themselves. My journey began with at-risk youth, to community mental health and then supporting veterans carrying the scars of war. Witnessing their courage and resilience in the face of immense pain deeply moved me, and it ignited a passion to explore the depths of trauma healing.
In 2011, I opened my private practice, combining traditional therapy with energy-based techniques. This unique blend helps release trapped emotions, outdated belief systems and traumas, without reliving them, leading to true healing of the mind, body, and spirit.
More recently, well since the pandemic I have really been drawn to incorporating healing ancestral trauma, the emotional imprints of unhealed wounds passed down through generations. Think of it like unhealed family patterns: experiences like war, oppression, abuse, poverty, neglect leave scars that can ripple down the family tree in our DNA. These unhealed patterns can show up in your present life and are not meant to be yours. You are meant to be the change agent.
I’m not just a therapist or coach; I’m your trusted companion on this journey. I’ve walked the same path, felt the same darkness, and emerged into the light. And I know you can too.
The many forms of trauma touch so many lives today, and I’m committed to offering support online, creating a safe space for healing.
If you’re ready to rewrite your story, reach out. I’d be honored to guide you on this powerful path to wholeness. Together, we can transform your scars into strengths, your pain into purpose, and your past into a stepping stone to a life beyond your dreams.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three main things stand out as having the biggest impact on my healing journey and, later, on helping others heal deeply:
- Having Supportive Anchors: Throughout my life, I am fortunate to have people I could myself around. People who provided honest feedback and a safe space to express myself without judgment. Their support was crucial in navigating the tough moments and staying grounded.
- Continuous Self-Improvement: Instead of dwelling on past mistakes or self-criticism, I adopted a mindset of continuous learning and growth. I remained open to new ideas, embraced curiosity, and strived to become a better version of myself every day. This self-compassionate approach fueled my personal healing and equipped me to better understand and support others.
- Shifting Focus to Serving Others: As I healed and grew, my focus naturally shifted from tending to my own needs to wanting to help others on their healing journeys on a larger scale. This outward focus not only fueled my own continued growth but also allowed me to connect with and empower others in meaningful ways. By sharing my experiences and offering support, I found profound fulfillment and purpose.
These qualities intertwined and supported each other. The honest feedback from trusted confidantes helped me identify areas for improvement. My commitment to self-growth equipped me with the tools and understanding to guide others. And my service-oriented focus fueled my motivation to learn and grow even further.
In essence, it was a cycle of support, self-improvement, and service that truly made a difference on my healing journey and in my ability to help others heal. These aren’t just qualities, but ways of being that I still strive for every day. They’re not always easy, but they’ve been essential in my own healing journey and in helping others heal deeply as well.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past year, I’ve discovered a powerful shift within myself: becoming more heart-centered. This means I actively listen to what my heart whispers, seeing it as a source of divine guidance. It keeps me grounded, focused, and radiating positive energy.
Connecting heart-to-heart with others feels deeper and more meaningful now. The energy flows more openly, leading to richer communication. By simply sitting in my heart space and asking what others or my business needs, things seem to flow smoother and peace fills me.
It’s like tuning into a powerful inner radio, my intuition and wisdom becoming clearer and stronger with each passing day. It’s a beautiful journey, and I’m excited to see where it leads next!
