Meet Laurieann Jazzwine

We recently connected with Laurieann Jazzwine and have shared our conversation below.

Laurieann, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I tell myself everyday I’m a jazz singer. Several years have passed. Now I know I am. I practice five to six days a week and it’s not work, it’s love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
So I am the business. I’m selling Jazzwine. My vocals are what this is about. I’m not a song writer. So I look for beautiful pieces I can get lost in. I love what I do and I do it well. I come with all my equipment & music (unless I’m singing at a place with there own equipment). I sing Sanatra, Ella F., Sammy D., Amy Winehouse, Nina Simon, Michael B., Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Diane Krall…and many more.
I perform at festivals, restaurants, birthday parties, weddings and any decent place that pays.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I am self taught. I have always been open to learn, so be open. My mentor was surprised at how well I listened and had no problem with following. So listen and learn from more experienced performers. You will sometimes have a bad day but if this is your calling learn from those bad days. It’s worth it.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I would love to have musicians. A horn, keyboard player, upright bass, guitarist, drummer… Yes I would love to have a band. Folks familiar with jazz and blues. If they can play that they can do just about anything. They need to have time to practice, love the music, be open to the odd tune. Also be nice people and be focus.
