Meet Leana Shayefar

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leana Shayefar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Leana , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my dad. He was a routine guy and built his life from nothing so I grew up watching him work very hard and have a dedicated routine his whole life

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Arebesk is a home grown, mom owned luxury brand known for creating the first designer grip sock. Arebesk launched out of a garage with just enough money to bring in one style, the Phish Net collection, with no budget left for marketing. After selling out in two local Los Angeles studios, studios around the world started demanding Arebesk, noticing our unique designs and unbeatable quality. Arebesk founder and pilates enthusiast Leana Shayefar received the inspiration for the company after falling in love with the pilates workout and struggling to find a grip sock that offered both style and traction.
Arebesk is the first grip sock to have two half circle silicone patches on the ball and heel of the foot for extra cushion and traction, as well as an extra silicone tab inside the heel of the sock to secure fit. Arebesk also pioneered the patent pending, easy-to-carry, mesh drawstring wash bag sold with every pair of Arebesk grip socks. The colorful line of pilates/yoga/barre/dance socks are mandatory apparel for any workout requiring a good grip.
The name Arebesk pays homage to the “arabesque,” a standard ballet step where the body is supported on one leg, with the other leg sweeps backwards. This move is also used in Pilates and other movement based workouts. Arebesk’s triangular logo also emulates the ‘V’ shape of the ‘teaser’ move in classic Pilates form.
Arebesk can be found online at Nordstrom and Free People Movement, as well as on www.arebesk.com and in pilates, barre, and yoga studios around the world. Find us on Instagram and Facebook at @arebeskusa.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
having been in the industry since I was 19 and working various jobs in PR, Marketing , Event Planning and design helped me with my business today. If you are in your early stages it is important to research your market and see if there is a need for your product or service. Making sure legally as well that you can develop your product is a must. Trying a small test order is also smart to see if your product / idea can sell before investing in larger quantities

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Number one challenge is navigating my industry and having to deal with competition and also people who like to hurt small business and competition with meritless lawsuits its a big problem in our industry
