We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lequita Sharrock. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lequita below.
Lequita , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes straight from heaven. The holy word teach us that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This passage means everything to me. We all have low moments and deal with setbacks. However, I know the Lord will give me the strength and resiliency to push across the finish line.
I’m also a 15-year breast cancer survivor. Undergoing surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation was no easy task. All the glory and honor to God for seeing me through that process. He blessed me to be a testimony for others to learn of his faithfulness.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
A true leader is first and foremost a servant. I play both roles as the CEO of Sharrock Media Group and founder of a nonprofit organization called Beyond The Booth, Inc.
SMG is a multifaceted digital media company. We specialize in podcasting, news reporting, editing and music production. The idea to start this business was a spiritual download and an answered prayer. After years of dealing with bullying in the corporate world, I ventured out to begin a family business. My husband’’s experience of over 25 as a mult-media journalist helped create space to perform our duties. God has blessed me along the way to learn key elements of being a successful entrepreneur and make solid connections.
The creation of our nonprofit organization came from my contract work with a recording studio. I listened to the cries of producers, artists and engineers about life outside of the studio. I wanted to offer outlets and programs to help them navigate through these areas. This allows them to focus on their craft.
I’m also a certified Christian, life and business coach. The coaching firm is called Invincible IQ.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. My previous experience in human resources and as tax prep helps me understand employee relations and money management.
2. Serving as a volunteer for multiple groups gave me insight into leading our nonprofit organization.
3. In the early 2000s, I worked a retail manager. This work helps me in setting a tone for our company.
My main advice is to prayer for knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Never compromise your work ethic, values or integrity.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We are looking to collaborate with diverse people who believe in integrity, accountability, being responsible and have a strong work ethic. We also want to work with self-starters who bring a smart and different approach that will produce favorable results.
