Meet Leslie King

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Leslie King. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Leslie , appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by constantly finding inspiration from life, and the world around me. It’s kind of a cheat code. Life doesn’t stop. It’s continuously presenting you with different things and situations. So, I reflect off my new experiences, interactions, and find ideas. Some inspire me, and therefore allows me to keep my creativity alive.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a photographer and an artist. I like to capture my subjects in a way that allows you to easily create a story in your mind behind the image. I started off as a painter, and switched to photography. Incorporating some of the details and framing that you find in paintings into my photographs is something I love to do. It’s important to me to capture and hold the viewer’s attention. Ultimately, affecting them and hopefully allowing them to appreciate my art.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most important thing is to learn how to be in tune with self. It helps you to know how to be true to yourself. Which, is the best way to produce brilliant and authentic art. Secondly, treat others how you want to be treated. Approach everyone with respect. Plus, you never know who you are speaking to. Lastly, be your biggest fan. You are not going to always have support or a cheering section. But, you’ll always be there. Learn to love and encourage yourself.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Having patience and learning to be even more patient. I think when working hard at something you expect the results or rewards to come soon, and as big, or as grand as the energy you put into it. Not true, lol. This past year I’ve had to really realize life and success, whatever it looks like to you, is a long game. Breathe, practice patience, and stay the course until you reach your goal.
